Planet Terror & Deathproof

Since then there have been two spin-offs from the trailers which got made into actual films, Machete (which I thought was pants) and Hobo With A Shotgun (which is odd, but quite good)
I forgot Hobo came from there; might give it a watch then. Machete was pretty pish, but I feel like I should watch it again with lower expectations and see if that makes any difference.

No, that doesn't make much sense, I know.

im pretty sure i remember that QT was annoyed about something regarding edits. its starting to come back to me - i think the studio forced shorter edits for the grindhosue double bill for cinema release, and QT wanted full length edits for the double bill, but they weren't screened as such in UK cinemas - and i think i remember thinking id just wait till they come out at the correct length on DVD. something like that

They were released as regular films in the UK, not as the 'Grindhouse' double bill. Eventually was released in its proper form, I caught it at the PCC. I really need to go back there...

It was the other way round. Tarantino and Rodrigez had planned Grindhouse as a one film double feature, but because of that the films had to be of a certain length so the film wouldn't get too long. When Grindhouse flopped in the US the Weinstein's decided to release the two films separately in Europe and for that the two directors added material that had originally been left on the cutting room floor to bring them up to feature film length. The point of Grindhouse to present a double feature was lost and both films feel a little overextended in their separate versions.
