Why didnt they roll out the airport fire tender and hose those eedjits back out through the fence.Just listened to that silly bint Tilly on the BBC news going on about they achieved their aim of stopping as many emissions as they could. Well how about the emissions from the many vehicles that had to get involved in your little caper.

Seems quite fair. Plane Stupid have wasted everyone's time and managed to increase the amount of carbon emissions for today. Completely pointless protest.

So where next for Plane Stupid and airport campaigners. It's clear from this thread that even those who are sympathetic to their cause don't want middle class people involved in it, and dont believe that they should be blockading airports. What postive advice can we give them instead to help them achieve their aims?

No, I have no sound on this machine. Though I agree that it is very foolish for the spokesperson of a group to sound clueless.
It's just something that bothers me about activism - the way people view middle class activists at times. You cannae help where you come from, and middle class people get derided as being wishy washy liberals if they're activists and operatives of the system if they're not. I know a couple of middle class people who dropped out of activism because they were sick of being treated like shit because of their accents or educational background - like you can't be an anarchist if your parents are minted. It's bonkers.

It seems to me that most protesters, whatever they are protesting about, can often come across as simplistic in their opinions when they are interviewed or quoted by the media. People who are good at intelligently articulating an opinion aren't going to be the same people who have the time/energy/inclination to go and do the protest or direct action stuff, the main point of which is to get people talking about the issue in the first place.
On any issue, whether its Gaza, "anti-capitalism", RMT strikes, the recent wildcat strikes, or this, there will always be clueless people saying slightly silly things.
This particular group seems to get singled out on this point more than others simply because for some reason many of their members seem to be "posh" whatever that actually means.

After almost six hours the Plane Stupid Scotland's action at Aberdeen airport ended with the protesters voluntarily unlocking themselves from their blockade. The eleven people, including local residents that this morning breached the airport fence have now been arrested. The protesters were told by police to dismantle their peaceful protest because the taxiway they were secured to was needed by an emergency helicopter. A baby apparently required urgent treatment, and any other approach would cause delays. Obviously the safety of the public was of paramount concern to the activists and so they duly removed themselves....
Plane Stupid has subsequently spoken to both the Accident and Emergency unit of Aberdeen hospital, and its press department. They were unaware of any transfers requested by air this morning. Not only that, but spokesperson Lesley Middleton said:
"We have our own helipad which we use in emergencies. Of course you can't anticipate what may happen, but in all my years of working here I can't think of a time when we've used Aberdeen airport. The only circumstances I can imagine where we'd need to get access to the area would be if there was an accident at the airport."
The protesters are now looking into the conduct of the police and are considering making a complaint.

Just watched a report on the BBC about it. The usual bunch of hurrah Henry's who could not give a crap for anyone but themselves. All about getting their mugs on TV, to portray themselves as ''so caring''.
Working class people had their holidays ruined when their connecting flights to larger airports were cancelled.
A rural airport used by people who need too. As for the air ambulance, it was delayed by these knobs. If they had researched first, they would have known that air ambulances fly from here on a regular bases because of the remote location. If anyone had died because of these dicks, I hope they would have been charged with manslaughter.
As for those nicked, I hope they send them down, not nice places Scottish prisons. Plus the Airport should sue them for damages, and I hope some passengers do as well.
We now have a society when it is possible for nearly all people to travel to parts of the World, which would have been impossible for them not that long ago.

In Britain's weather history, there has been freezing times, such as when the Thames used to freeze over, and very hot periods.

I note that Plane Stupid are mentioning the Donald Trump golf course as one of the reasons for their protest.
They don't really help themselves by describing it as in "Ayrshire" on their website though.

Yes if Trump happens, the airport will inevitably play a significant part in his plans. Just how much has yet to emerge & I'm not willing to speculate on the few rumours I've heard about it yet.

Nope, only outline permission - Which certainly establishes a principle that it will go ahead but with some pretty strict conditions attached.
However, since then, Trump has sacked WATG/Jenkins & Marr & appointed Gareth Hoskins/Acanthus DF as new architects, with talk of a whole new masterplan. Which might just mean that he is finally taking some of the main concerns on board but could seriously upset things for him as many of Swinney's conditions were strictly linked to the old plans.
Then there is talk of him trying to delay parts of the project because of current market conditions, which again, could put him out of time for the current agreed timescale & lifespan of the permission.
There is still one major detail permission to get before he can start, then at least two more before he can make significant progress on the site & probably umpteen minor ones before the scheme is finished.
The only thing to happen so far is that he has renamed Menie House after his mother & I don't even think he has got permission for a new sign yet.
So not finished yet, not by any means!
