Plane crash lands on River Hudson, New York

That's amazing. I always assumed "we're going to land on water" = we're doomed.

I'm guessing, but it might be because the water's very flat. What often happens with a water landing is that the nose digs in and the plane cartwheels end over end, but if it's as flat as that seems to be maybe it's more easily avoided. Very neat piece of flying, though...

Did anyone have a life vest on? From the footage I cant see any.

Perhaps there wasnt enough time to grab them.

E2a just seen better pics on the BBC- some people _were_ wearing life vests.

Yes, I always laughed at the life jackets - whose going to need those when the fireball hits the waves? In fact, before this I am not aware of any incidents involving airliners landing on water in which life jackets were worn by surving passengers.

Awesome 'save' Helped by flat water no doubt (waves are really bad news) but still probably the most successful ditch for an airliner. Never thought it possible.

Check out the footage of the passengers being taken to safety. Shivering, clad in blankets and life-jackets, most of them are shuffling along with a vacant look on their faces (and rightly so) - then there's one dude waving his hands in the air and smiling like he's just won a game show. That is how I would like to survive a plane crash :D

Bloody soap, that is amazing. All hail the pilot, and all hail the passengers for not panicking. I'm bloody sure I would've.

Outstanding photo.

The light, everything... looks unrealistically subdued. Almost set up.

In aviation photography terms, maybe iconic.

Yup, incredible bit of photography. Even the condensation on the lens works.

3.20 pm NYC time, apparently.

As for the plane, miraculous work from the pilot... I'll bet the flight software was OSX and not PC... :p
