Places you have no interest in going to

Japan is the only place where a white Westerner can experience racism. Not the anti-Gringo racism of the third world, which is reasonably legitimate resentment against citizens of oppressor nations, but the kind of racism that views you as culturally and ethnically inferior. Basically, racist Japanese (who aren't the majority but a significant minority) view white people in the same way as racist white peolpe view black people: great sense of rhythm, hyper-sexual, crude, pretty thick and generally rather undesirable. Its an interesting experience.

I have never been to Korea, well not out of the aiport.

I know what you are talking about in Japan. Is it not the same in Korea, only on a smaller scale and less noticeable? I always imagined it would be a bit like that in Korea too.

Hummm, I wouldn't say that at all. Where the hell were you hanging out?
Maybe some people think that but I've had very few 'phff, gaijin' experiences.

I think it has changed a lot in recent years though too.

Ireland. I come from Wales so all that whimsical Celtic bollox is old hat to me. And I don't care what anyone says a pint of Guinness is nothing to get excited about. They sell it in my local pub. "Ah, but it's different over there." Oh do fuck off. Stop talking to yourself. OK.

Iceland. Too many Bjork and Damon Albarn associations for me.

Ah well, we won't miss you I'm sure.:D

(poor the Australia) I had a great time there.

I know what you're saying about Japan, I felt it there myself in the past, never felt it in South Korea at all. I have Japanese friends there though, I'd like to go back.

I have no interest in:
Couples resorts wherever they are - how boring and sterile.
Beach holidays in hot countries (unless there was a special reason to be there - like Unsound) , so no Maldives or Canaries or Florida or anything like that. Boring and I'm rubbish in the heat - I'd be under a umbrella with factor 50 on, sulking.
Posh holidays in posh hotels, reminds me too much of business trips. We call them 'bed factories'
and Dubai - if another person says to me 'oh you'd love it there.'
I'm not into flying anywhere either - fed up with it, again due to work. I love holidays in the UK on me boat though.

I work for them.

Its a very odd dynamic. No matter how professional or whatever you are ( Im not ) you cant ever win.The whole business culture is utterly morally corrupt and self serving. There isnt a level playing field if you are not Japanese.

There are 2 levels - Japanese & everyone else

Woe betide if you are "everyones else" and a woman.Dont expect much.

Strangeley enough, theres not a problem being openly gay as far as I can see.

The good thing is that fuck ups are not held against you -m their isnt the blame culture that you get in American firms and is used to gain a foothold for those on the promotion ladder and it accpetable to read a Newspaper at your desk when its quiet, have a kip in your chair or even ( horror of horrors ) spend all day on the U75:D

TBH there's nowhere I'd categorically say no to - it's always interesting to observe different cultures and watch people, even if they're close to your own in a lot of ways.

I was in Tokyo and Kyoto. Was refused entry to a few places, obviously for being gaijin, and generally picked up a racist vibe from a few people. It wasn't all negative though, I got lots of female attention, but even that was slightly racist--in the same way that some white women go with black guys because they assume they're ultra-sexual.

I doubt it, the Koreans are much more easy-going: "the Irish of Asia" as they are known. Although I did once have a Korean girlfriend, and my male Korean mate thought that was a very bad idea. It wasn't really racist thought, his logic was that if a Korean girl went out with a Westerner, she must be a bit of a slut. Well maybe that is racist...

That was hardly necessary. A few Japanese women told me that they only dated white guys, or that they were trying to find a white boyfriend etc. That's a bit racist innit? It reveals all sorts of preconceptions about what white people are like. For example, if a white person starts dancing in a Japanese club, the locals will often form a circle and watch him/her, you can see them taking mental notes and marvelling at our natural sense of rhythm.

I got fed up with working for a Japanese company after about 3 years but yes, it's a bit strange.

I dont know really, i want to visit most places!! aint got any interest in going to somewhere like bosnia or rwanda tho, i would feel like a bit voyeuristic ..

i dont really want to go to australia, or new zealand, they are both too much like the uk to be honest.

i really want to go to israel but i wont do it until they treat the palestinians better, which could be a long time

erm where else?
somalia, for the same reasons as bosnia and rwanda, as well as the fact that i'd prob end up getting shot ...
japan (funny how so many people have said that on this thread...)
panama - from everything ive heard it just seems boring sorry ... :D

well i did once have a nigerian freind who said to me... "if you ever go to africa, don't go to nigeria, it's a shithole." so i'm probably going to take his word on that one

to be honest i'm not hugly into travaling... i've done a lot of it and it's quite nce but i'd want a reason to go to a place and an idea about where i'd want to go

too many beach holidays as a kid means that beaches arn't all that appealing

I've been to Nigeria.. Lagos is defo a shithole, lovely people though. Been to Abuja and further north too, less people but the same.

Abuja was designed by the same people that designed Milton Keynes :D

I have an 'interest' in visiting everywhere in the world but guess there are priorities.

Dubai is fairly low down but would still be 'interested' to see it.

I only have a vague interest in most places. I like beaches and swimming in the sea and good seafood but two weeks would max me out so I'm perfect for package holidays to Mauritius or the Maldives. I'm going to Crete in May for a week which I'm looking forward to.

I like going to cities like New York or Tokyo but I have to have a reason to go. I wouldn't just decide to go somewhere just to do tourism in a city - I'd feel like I don't know the place, wouldn't get to enjoy the REAL city and I'd be ripped off for being a tourist and doing 'tourist stuff'

Generally I like short breaks. Amsterdam, Brussels, Spain, Sofia, New York for a few days to hang out with friends and get away and then back to my home comforts in London and Wiltshire.

australia, although that said we are thinking of planning a big trip year after next to visit relahni's best mate, so i guess i'd go then :D

Not too bothered about visiting the central african countries but then again i wouldnt dismiss them. You wouldnt know whether you liked a country until you have visited it.

Weatern Australia is a great place

I have just been to Western Australia for 3 weeks. Although there are similarities with the UK, food , language, it is also very different. Where can you drive for over an hour without seeing another car. Mandurah a place where they have virtually no graffiti. Bunbury a place where the girl a the supermarket checkout asked how my day had been. It's a great place to visit and the people are genuinely friendly. :)
