Places for a Sunday Roast in Brixton

The Bishop on Lordship Lane (or, presumably, the Castle on Camberwell Church Street, since they are the same chain) does a pretty good roast, although it might be a bit noisy as a place to take parents...

If you are going to Lordship Lane, I'd just go to Franklin's - the best Sunday roast I have ever eaten out, and it doesn't cost any more than many of those gastropubs and bars on Lordship Lane.

Never seen any kids in The Calf.. go there :)

*sings it's praises* :)

Anyone know what the Trinity Arms is like for Sunday lunch? Read through this thread, but pubs change in Brixton so fast, really none the wiser. Can't be arsed to trek out of Brixton so really just looking for a comfy pub for tasty sunday fare and ale!

I've had good experiences at the White Horse on Brixton Hill recently. Food and service both taken a turn for the better. Sunday roast just as good as at Prince Regent IMHO

I recommend the Far Side on Stockwell Road - the roast is about £8 but there is sooooo much food and it's very good. Otherwise they do a nice meal for £5.90 on a saturday including a half pint/glass a wine. The food always tastes very fresh - they do have an outside bit. And if you get there about 1, it's usually not too busy

Because opinions about how small children ought to behave in public places tend to differ hugely between people who've tried to eat lunch with small childen in tow and those that haven't ime.

How about trying to eat lunch when an eighteen month old girl is screaming at the top of her voice because the salt and pepper shakers she's been playing with have been taken away from her?

Believe me, it's hard even when she's a relative (as this one was), it's a sound like an icepick each side of your skull.

Standard pub grub, reasonably priced but not the best you'd ever eat :)

Try the Crown and Greyhound in Dulwich village... it huge so unlikely to be full and there are lots of families about!

of course it's a bit out of the way (but u can walk off the roast on the way back!) and in Dulwich.
AKA "The Dog". Yep, decent choice for the parent thing.

Also, there's a nice post-grub walk in Dulwich Park just around the corner and just across the road is the Dulwich Picture Gallery. Sorted !

If you fancy venturing further afield and for an even better post-lunch walk, DON'T have the sunday roast at the Dulwich Wood House by Sydenham woods. It has a lovely beer garden, nice Youngs ale - but the food is completely tasteless, and low quality. And takes forever to arrive. Picnic in the woods, pint in the pub.

The Crown & Greyhound AKA the Brat & Toy as my wife renamed it. hat was before swhe was pregnant of course - karma's a bitch and all that. Not knocking it, its a good place in a great location that fulfills a need especially if a lot of your friends have kids. sunday dinner is carvery style but is pretty good. I've eaten off the menu there before as well though and it was pretty poor by comparison.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned the Priory Arms in Stockwell - fantastic sunday lunch and a very pleasant vibe all round. Highly recommended.

The Landor on Landor Road also does a very creditable sunday roast and claims to use all organic produce.

I recommend the Sun and Doves on Coldharbour Lane - www.sunanddoves.co.uk. they do a good Sunday lunch and selection of other dishes (possibly even a barbecue depedning on the weather) and the garden/ terrace area is great. You can get the menus on the website

Just been to The Prince Regent for a roast. Very nice, but a tad over priced (£10.50). They also put the optional service charge on the bill and put the full amount in the card machine. I find this cheeky (it puts pressure on you to pay a tip when it should be entirely your own discretion) and said so. The woman serving me got very defensive and arsey about me saying so. Not sure if I'll be going back in a hurry.
