You shouldn't want that unless you also want a UK national side. Because one would inevitably lead to the other.

To be honest I couldn't give a toss, I'm not against the UK, a UK side or UK league. My identity and interest is not confined or defined to/by my national team or league so why not?

I don't know what "they about 300 fans at most" means.

Thinking about it, I think I'd probably put Celtic and Rangers on a par with Tottenham and Aston Villa. Or possibly some other biggish clubs that have fallen from grace -- Newcastle and Leeds, maybe?

Does that mean that Hull are a bigger club than Newcastle and Leeds?

Do you follow football at all?

Tottenham or Aston Villa. :D Thinking about it, i'd put Celtic and Rangers on par with Brentford and Stockport County.

What precisely will Bolton get out this proposal? Or is it more what Gartside will get out of it?

Bolton and others are terrified of being relegated so they want to form a big two division Prem with the OF and all the other clubs with high opinions of themselves which aren't justified by their playing performance

The other solution of course would be to stop spending more money than they have, then they wouldn't need to worry about going bust. Perish the thought

Of course it's not irrelevant. Fanbase means merchandising and telly subscribers means money. That's why they want Celtic and Rangers in the first place.

Celtic, in particular, is a worldwide brand.

You're confusing matchgoing fans with couch potatoes

Brentford are a worldwide brand as well, and if kabbes is thinking of arguing otherwise then he clearly knows nothing about football.

Celtic and rangers can fuck right off.

I don't think the league should have reduced numbers either, its the same in number as in spain so i don't get why blatter is always moaning about this, other then him being a clueless cunts of a man.

I do think that the amount of games in the uefa cup is starting to take the piss though. That could do with trimming down again.

I really don't get what difference two tier pl would make compared to the epl/championship.

how?

Are rights to the championship currently bought with rights to league 1/2 and therefore by putting thier rights in with the epl they will get more money?

I am struggling to find an answer but this seems the only logical thing.

dave

let them join, English and Welsh clubs both play in the same league so why not Scottish clubs too? Why not combine the whole thing and let all the UK teams play together. A proper UK league would be good.

You shouldn't want that unless you also want a UK national side. Because one would inevitably lead to the other.

Not necessarily, but FIFA will certainly need a lot of persuasion to allow the Home Nations to continue with their separate representation if this was to happen. I think that if push came to shove, they would permit separate representation to continue.

It's fair to point out that Cardiff and Swansea play in the 'English' league and that Wrexham, Newport County, Merthyr Tydfil and Colwyn Bay also play in the lower 'English' leagues.

When William McGregor, director of Aston Villa, set up the Football League in 1888, it wasn't called the English League because he always hoped that Scottish clubs would join. Some Scottish clubs played in the early FA Cups - Queen's Park played in the very first and several years after that.

PL expands to 2 divisions of 18, meaning that 16 clubs resign from the FL and join the PL

Expanded PL telly rights are all sold together and monies distributed more equitably - ie a little less in the top flight to make the second tier a little closer to them

Everyone else can fuck off

That's how it would work

are league 1/2 rights sold separately from the championship at the moment are are they all part of the same package?

Basicly will league 1/2 suffer massivly as a result of this or not.

the proposal includes the idea of no promotion from the football league at all. Basically killing all football below PL2 stone dead. L1 and L2 would go semi-pro within 5 years IMO

No, FL rights are sold collectively, though the clubs in the so called 'Championship' (arf) keep most of the money anyway. Divs 3 & 4 will lose all of the trickle down money they do get should the new proposals succeed

well that is just silly then.

dave

well, not from Gartside´s perspective. He wants PL1 and 2 to negotiate a joint tv-deal that shares the money evenly down the two leagues. Meaning sides like Bolton can set their budgets for the worst case scenario of being in PL2, thus avoiding the potential repercussions of getting relegated at the moment.

On the other hand he could just run his football club properly and prepare for the worst case scenario. But that´s no fun.

there´s no precedent is there for a unified national league sharing different international teams. But then there´s no precedent for one political nation state having 4 football teams either.

I don´t know why they don´t just equalise the tv revenue for all 20 clubs in the prem. What the hell are the big 4 gonna do about it, seeing as they´d be outvoted 16 to 4?

Remember when the FA Cup could lay claim to being the greatest club competition in the world? And people gave a shit about the League Cup?

The Premiership/FA sure saw that one off. Much more money in Europe

ah, he´s changed his plans apparently. Gartside is allowing relegation from PL2, if the promoted sides meet certain criteria (stadium size, revenue)

might have been reading different stats the other day. But the top club gets about 20m more than the bottom club

Think thats for prize money for league finnish rather then tv money. Not inlcuidng things like parachute payments for relegated clubs.
