But then there's Exhibit B: her friendship/relationship with that prize cockend Vincent Gallo.

good lord! really?? he's such a prick.

i think i'll stop reading this thread now....

:D

What's so bad about being friends with Vincent Gallo? (whoever he is)

Surely the fact that she's done the bad thing with Sir Nicholas of Cave off-sets no end of knobber mates?

Just because someone is a good artist doesn't mean she isn't a nightmare as a human being.

I've never met her so can't really comment - but the story went that my mate who was tour-managing her sacked himself fairly early in the piece because she was turning out to be a total nightmare to work with.

So the story goes.

re: Stroud College? It's DED wierd round there.

The best gigs I ever did were in Stroud - Stroud's fucking great. Gloucester on the other hand is really weird... Something strange happened there every time.

One night we were driving back after a gig (1am) - tried to get petrol at the only station for miles, and were shooed away by a policeman. "go up the road" he said. As we were pulling away, this woman at the door of the service station started going barmy banging her fists agains the door trying to get in etc

There wasn't a service station up the road so we came back.

Turns out that this guy had gone to the service station, lured the woman working inside out, then gone in, locked her out... then hung himself in front of her.

The other weird things in Gloucester were a bit more run of the mill. Fires. Violence. That sort of thing.

Apparently Bruce Gernand, my girlfriends sculpture tutor at St Martins used to tutor PJ Harvey too, just as she was getting signed to a record label.

PJ had a tutorial with him, about her mixed feelings about becoming an artist or musician. He explained that she could always come back to art, but becoming a rock star is much more important, and that she should give that a go first!

What a legend! Bruce we salute you!

Just think of what we could have missed out on.

I absolutely worship the ground she walks on and always have done!

I remember seeing her emerge, vamp-like at Glastonbury 2004, screeching like a banshee in her lipstick pink stilettoes.

PJ Harvey = goddess :D :D

he's a proud racist and republican.

but these issues are irrelevant to her music.
for one she doesn't sing about that kinda bullshit.
and two, she doesn't sing about vincent gallo.

i might have to listen to some of her stuff this evening. haven't done for ages. she's dead ace. couldn't give a shit about her politics though, whatever they might be. they are not an issue when it comes to enjoying her music.

yeh - i prefer Bjork though - she is infinitely madder :D :D

indeed - but I enjoy her music less consistently and it isn't anywhere near as emotive imo. I need that to declare goddess/queen status

I worship Bjork and PJ Harvey equally :) My dream concert would be a Bjork/PJ Harvey double bill – their performance together at Glastonbury years ago is high on my list of performances I wish I'd seen.

did they do that? i thought i'd seen every PJ performance at Glastonbury and missed that one. I know they did the BRITS, but i thought that was it.

PJ Harvey is brilliant.

I bought 4 track demos on lovely vinyl when I was a wee lad and promptly dropped it on the floor and a big chunk of it smashed out before I'd even had a chance to listen to it.

I was right sad.

:(

Gutted. I've still got my cherished vinyl copy at home, it has miraculously survived the onslaught of cat claws that were the ruination of my Muppets albums.

I was.

I've still got the record though.

Saw her in '91 or '92 (I'm awful for dates) still have her autograph on a packet of Silk Cut 100s and the set list, with a poem written on it by her. Might be worth summat by now.

Oh, and she was great of course.

I saw her around then - in Southsea/Portmouth :) God, she's amazing live.

Some poor girl at the front of the stage called out 'Play Dress!' and she had to say 'Uhm, I just played it' :D

I named my cat PJ after her :swoon:
