pirates

Well I've not bought a CD for months. Downloaded plenty though.

If you don't care the record industry loses money, that's one argument. To argue they're not losing money is bullshit. I'm an example of that loss.

Post wise you have have 45 more to go - woo!

Oh, the excitement. Do you really believe the "big boys" won't listen until you've made 5,000 posts? Or are you peeved because these "big boys" won't play with you?

The idea that someone needs to make thousands of posts to gain validity on Urban is bollocks – even if you put a winking smiley at the end of your sentence.

What's next, "music pirates support terrorism!!"?

:D

Cmon You know as well as I that Binladin and his ilk are busily running off millions of copies of Christina Aguilera's latest master piece. These counterfits find their way into the former Soviet Union and through a safisticated network of criminal gans, eventually are consumed buy our kids. yes Western kids, on the streets of the UK, from Newcastle to Bodmin.

It's no coincidence one of the alleged Alantic flight bombers had an Ipod Nano is it.

that seems oddly snippy?

Were we not joshing a moment ago?

Who has argued that, though?
Seems like an inevitable consequence of downloading to me.

I also find the notion that because artists/labels have big pockets that entitles people to help themselves as well.

because it's equally as specious as some of the claims you ARE making.
No it isn't and trying to draw in a completely separate and stupid argument in order to coutner what i HAVE said is pretty sad. I think that's what they call a straw man.

Still what do i know.

Well said.

I never that claim. So why mention it?

You ignored huge swathes of points that didn't suit you, too. Why not mention them?

So, basically what we appear to have is this: it's ok for you to put words and concepts into the mouths of others or to suggest that your opinion is somehow more "correct" than any one who may dare to disagree with you...

But not to repeat things the RIAA and their supporters (know who they are? I hope so, seeing as you're spouting their lines happily) have actually used as arguments in this debate in the past? That's just daft.

I'm going to go and share a few songs by struggling artists, just to irritate you.

;)

You haven't made any points, you've just been rude so why would i mention anything you've said.

I also haven't put words into anyone's mouths.

You are not only wrong, but you are ignorant - nice to meet you, welcome to the show.

Opinion, not fact. ;)

Unlucky, kid, but you're a lot of fun...
It is fact. You just choose not to see it because you are basically a thief.

Or...try arguing the case legally and see how far you get.

The only person who'll be unlucky then will be you.

What case?

There is no "case", other than in your tiny mind.

Downloading and the mp3 revolution has been a source of inspiration for new CD purchases for me, that's the point I was making - I'm interested to know how you can claim that my CD buying tactics are somehow "wrong"? :D

I think you've gotten a little distracted by the fact that no one has kissed your sorry little arse.

Now fuck off, there's a good lad.

;)

They may have had a point, when you think about it.

I mean, the 80s was the decade of home taping, right?

Listen to some of that music!!

 :D

Oh you're making a POINT now.

Well in that case I assume you'd like to discuss that point; thus my retort will be as follows: you're wrong.

There. Simple, clean, elegant and accurate.

You see I'm not discussing your cd buying habits. I'm discussing the downloading of copyrighted music by artists who would otherwise make a living from the sales you are denying.

Please don't tell me that these cds were brought because you heard them first through downloading ripped - illegal - files. That's not an argument, it's denial.

As for the comparison with home taping, well there isn't one. The two situations are significantly different in as much as you don't need to buy a recording medium to 'tape' mp3's. The software can be gotten free legitamately and there is no cost involved in ripping from source. This is not the case with casettes where the industry could recoup some cost through (if it ever did, i don't know) the sale of casettes somehow.

Not entirely sure where your aggression comes from; guilt maybe. Certainly i don't expect or want people to kiss my backside. If you want a sensible discussion then perhaps you could refrain from continually making stupid and facile comments.

Either that or fuck off yourself.

Thats bollocks, this week I have bought; Writer's Block by Peter Bjorn & John, The Warning by Hot Chip and Yes Virginia by Dresden Dolls. All of them I downloaded first and decided it was something I wanted to support. Ive never heard Dresden Dolls on the radio so the internet is the only way I could have listened to their music.

There has been plenty of stuff I have downloaded and havent bought because it was either not good enough, IMO, or I didnt have enough money and so would not be buying it anyway.

Artic Monkeys seem to have done alright despite half the country already having the album months before it was released. If you make good music people will support you, if you make toss no one will.

look, fucko. first of all, you're calling a lot of people liars. Second of all, don't make me pull rank by explaining how long i was a music journalist for, which leading music trade paper I worked for and how much I know about this stuff.

You'll look like even more of a blowhard cunt than you already do.
