Pioneer active monitors - best speakers for jungle & other dance music?

hmmm, the rokit 5s come in three different sizes, i have the middle size, i am sure I didn't pay more than £250 for the pair.

behringer doesn't have the best rep for quality, I am not saying krk are perfect but i think they are a fair bit better

KRK Rokit 5 G3 (Black) Studio Monitor

£115 ish each....

I've actually seen some mackies I'm gonna put a snipe on on ebay and then cross my fingers and pray..... I've got loads of friends with them, and they're really nice.

Mackies do make some nice gear, the last party i put on, i used a 1k active mackie system, I only had it turned up around 60% and the sound was crisp.

The HR824 is the one I'm watching....

i very much doubt Ill get them in my budget, they'll get out of reach as the auction draws to a close, but its worth a try :)

I knew someone who was into producing D'n'B and they went from Rokit's to the Truth's citing bass response as one of the reasons iirc.

yamaha hs8 seem to fit the flat sound requirement as well as being not too expensive, they also have very good reviews across the web and are in the background of pretty much every film/clip of a studio on tv, film, youtube etc.........

I think they've started trying to knock out speakers that have the retro NS10 look to cash in... That said a mate had some of the new ones you linked to and I remember thinking they were pretty impressive for the size and a lot more fun to listen to than NS10s

Im looking for them predominantly for djing.

The dick that had the Mackie's on eBay I was bidding on took them off sale and relisted them for double what they were sitting at..... the prick.

I'm actually wondering whether I should get some passive ones...... I've got quite a nice amp anyway, and it would enable me to get either some nice monitors, or save some money.

Edit:

Or just getting this

B&W ASW608 Powered Subwoofer

I've got BW DM550 speakers anyway (yes they are about 30 years old), and a reasonably decent amp (Yamaha AX596).

Fuck it moody I'm going to look at some of those rokit's on saturday morning.

Do you ever find them quiet? Thats my main worry as the drivers are only diddy.

Also do I need isolators?

No idolaters as they have rubber pads on the bottom & they're only quite if you hsvr the volume low
I've got some speaker stands I'm going to see how well they fit on...... but Ill need stands for them anyway, so I can't imagine Ill need isolation pads.

I have mine on stands too.

really the best thing to do, is go to a store where you can listen to different sets of speakers/monitors. This is what I did, I listened to a few sets and in the end it was a choice between some Adams, the Rokits & a set of Alesis.

as you have siad, you have a budget so your choice is linmited to that, but if you find a set you like out of budget, look on ebay.

PMT are a good store, do you have one near you?

also, if you are using them just to DJ, then it doesn't matter to much about things like sound coluration, this and other fine points only really matter if you are producing, in that case, you want a pair that has a flat frequency response, like the yahamas

also, if they are just for home dj use, do they have to be monitors?

I used a pair of KEF coda 7 for ages and they were the nuts, yeah they are hifi speakers but they sounded great and were small but yet could handle what I threw at them as well as give it back.

I've actually decided mine are fine, just need tuning, although I've got a snipe on a sub on eBay.

cool, which ones do you have?

2 x B&W DM550...... I was thinking they were sounding flat and pants because they're 27 years old (I think), but it turned out my housemate had been fucking with the settings, trimmed loads of bass and treble out and decided to make them sound flat..... (I think it was him anyway, its only me and him that use them).

Missed out on the sub though, went a bit too high.
