Whenever I see this thread it prompts me to listen to them, at the moment I am listening to the dark side of the moon and very good it is :)

A couple of years ago a friend of mine died at the age of 41. At her funeral the main song was Wish You Were Here chosen by her boyfriend. They were both huge Floyd fans.

Always makes me think of that day now :(

Their choral progressions were absolutely beautiful. Amazing time signatures too for that time. 7/8 in Money...And back to 4/4
Really very talented and amazing to listen to. The absolute best chill out music for me. Ever.

I read that as 'Charcoal progressions' and was wondering if that related to some new artwork they'd released or and new Animal's related BBQ double gatefold :D

What a difference 5 and a half years make. To think I was trying to convince butchers of floyds merits back then, when these days I am infinitely more likely to be listening to The Fall, and thats despite reading plenty of brain churning things about shit Mark E Smith said.

I listened to Animals on Friday because of Trump's inflatable superimposed on the album cover (Battersea power station). First song learned on guitar was wish you were here...

This song seemed rather apt for the current political climate theme

It's for a certain mood, space and time. Didn't like their Sid Barret era but after that I loved them.

I spend loads of time now watching black men listening to Pink Floyd records. Turns out they love them, with one saying he wished he'd discovered them as a young man, but that no one in his area listened to them at all

7/8, 8/9 and 2/9 are pretty standard in turkish music tbh.

I like to chill out to Penderecki these days.

It’s like plenty of music from the 60s/70s. It was great at the time & was of it’s time. Some Floyd tracks have stood the test of time & still sound good today others have not & the same can be said of many bands from the same era. The observations in the op were I would guess irrelevant to fans at the time. If you wanted profound music you listened to Bob Dylan. If you wanted stuff that sounded great on microdots you listened to Floyd.

Video above is great. On acid or not.

I think Pink Floyd are the greatest band that have ever existed, or will ever exist. I've loved them since I first saw them at a Hyde Park free concert in 1968 when I was just 13  My absolute favourites are everything up to and including The Wall, with Dark Side of the Moon undoubtedly the best album ever.
Everything post-Wall is great too but I don't play them nearly as much as the earlier stuff. I know I'm biased but I can't understand how anyone doesn't like them! I've seen the original band many times, and now go to see a lot of tribute bands, so was really happy when Nick Mason and Guy Pratt formed Saucerful of Secrets last year, and my sons loved seeing 2 of the real PF members. We're seeing them again end of this month

Funny this thread popped up again as was listening to a bit of flloyd this weekend. I like it, its a thing of important rock history but it can be a little long winded. I think the shine track above takes 8 minutes to get to lyrics.

I enjoy the Barrett eta stuff much more but have listened to most of the albums so many times as to almost know them note for note. The jots of a teenage stoner/tripper!

Am i getting old that I think I'd rather listen to a greatest hits!! :D
