Yes, I've heard that.

I've heard it all. Trust me, it was a large part of the music other people around me played when I was growing up, and I never really liked it.

I suppose you could say that I like stuff like the DKs because of Floyd, so in that sense,

But that's as good as you're getting. ;)

a rare (well i am sure a lot of Urbans know it) but nonetheless 'rare' classic is the truly magical 'Apples and Oranges' which was their follow up to 'Emily' and the last single Syd wrote for them.

its a very English song, and is the sublime lyrics make me love England more than i already do.

the video here - a rare, live Syd performance - is quite eerie as many say his 'stare' is prevalent.

:(

I'm sure if I'd be around at the time at the UFO Club they would have, like, have blown my mind because they were making an amazing sound for 1966. I like quite a bit of their earlier stuff and Dark Side is a truly seminal album.

yes! When Pink Floyd started they were a band with three architect students and one artist. Syd was the artist. i think all the Dark Side of the Moon stuff and beyond is incredible, especially when they got introduced girl singers and saxaphones (Syd's idea, Roger Waters hides that) but, brilliant as it was, Piper At The Gates of Dawn is their 'real' magnum opus.

My usual response:

Great first album, after that took a while to get back on track after losing Syd. Great again between Meddle and WYWH, got passable with Animals and The Wall, then went very very crap with Waters and without Rick Wright (who should be given as much credit as Syd/Gilmore as far as their sound goes), and after Waters pissed off didn't improved that much. As far as they sound goes, Division Bell was the best they did since WYWH, ending their career in a somewhat acceptable note.

Division Bell and Lapse of Reason are amazing, so is the 10 minute long bit at the end of The Wall which is like a musical. the earlier stuff is a load of cack

I think the people who say they don't like them actually do like them really but without realising it.

Try this thought experiment: Imagine a world without Pink Floyd. Imagine they had never existed. Aren't you glad that Pink Floyd are in the world?

Imagine how desolate and empty the world would be if they had never been.

hmm are you confusing them with someone else or under the impression they were the only psychedelic band ever. or something.
I mean really, what would we do without Radiohead?

Without Dark Side of the Moon there'd be no Dub Side of the Moon.

Not shit for me, had a top time seeing them at Maine Road.

Not Shit. Soooo not shit. The Ordinary boys are shit, so are Keane. Not Pink fucking FLoyd!

I'm interested, those that voted shit.........why? Why do you actually think they are so shit. Because of what they sing about? Or the music itself? What they stand for?

Why Urban Why!

Jesus wept, this thread does the rounds as much as "Where did you think of your usernsame" does.

The bottom line is this.

You're either really into them, have been into them, or you think they're shit because they don't enter your stratosphere of 'cool' like the latest nike trainers on the market etc.

I happen to think their musicianship is good; even if the lyrics can moan at times. The lazer shows at the concerts haven't been beaten. It's a joy to experience.

However, I'm sure squat parties in South London are much better, as we'll probably hear, but with more talent and just the 'coolness' that pink floyd could never have grasped themselves.

Where would we be without DJs ?

Eh? ;)

I reckon the Floyd debate got summed up pretty well by somebody last time this topic came up...:

"pink floyd is like acne and excessive masturbation, most people grow out of it after adolesence, and you're left with these tragic characters...."

I love some of their stuff. I'm a massive fan of Darkside of the Moon (yeah I know). However some of the other stuff I find pretty difficult/borring to lsiten to.
