Pilgrimage???

I knew you would like that :)

A man has to eat and drink and sleep and all that. It costs money. Some idiots seem to think I should be paying to do work and walking all the way bare foot drinking only water and eating only bread. Fuck that. I'm staying in hotels, eating good food, smoking good spliff and enjoying beautiful company. More than happy to give 10K of my earnings to charity, but I may need the rest to avoid spoiling my savings. All seems more than fair to me. Would you give 75% of your take home pay to charity?

I wouldn't tell people they were giving to charity and then spend the money on fucking hotels and drugs.

Neither would I.

Everyone who gives money knows that it's for my hotels and drugs and anything leftover goes to other good causes :)

I'm getting plenty of good media coverage explaining exactly who I am and what I'm doing. Everyone appreciates that I need money to live and they all appreciate that I'm giving up a good chunk of time and effort to raise money for charity. Seems everyone is happy apart from the few U75 jealous fuckwits :)

What media coverage? Where? Examples?

I got a full page feature in El Mundo for Semana Santa weekend

Every town I visit I try to get local coverage also. I did an interview yesterday for a local ex-pats paper and another for a US arts magazine trying to get sponsors for my next project. There's probably a few examples on the web.

PDF - HTML not to clever. Fucking Mac designers!

Lots more out there somewhere.

As well as local and national media coverage I keep the full explanation for people to read in Spanish and English whilst I sketch. Everybody is very encouraging and love what I'm doing and the way I live my life :)

Exhibition in Barcelona next summer and an invitation to do something similar in Berlin coming up.

It's very rewarding :p

Oh Stanley, God you are right!.
I'm jealous! Fuck - I had no idea!
Thank you for highlighting this. I can now begin to repair the hole in my life in earnest. You have thankfully helped me find my weakness.
I feel I may too try becoming an sponging, self absorbed, fucknut shyster to fill the gaping void in my life with radiant sunshine...or drink a few bottles of Rioja evry day to simulate said effect. Dunno - which do you recomend? (although a combination of the two seems to be a winning formula for you!)
Keep it real, mate. Yeah?

Obviously, I was referring to you. Never mind.

Despite occassional lonliness wobbles (all part of the adventure) I am actually having a great time. Best of all, I have great friends to turn to when needed.

How's life treating you in debt to the eyeballs with all your fancy knobs?

:)

I've reached Santiago for the final time (on this journey).

Almost a year hiking all around Spain. It has been a fabulous experience for many, many reasons. Has been tough at times. Very revealing about the way people perceive you. A great education about Spanish history and culture. My Spanish language has improved dramatically. I've met millions of people from all sorts of backgrounds. Made contacts, connections and good friends all over Spain and Europe. Possibly a bit of a spiritual voyage of self-discover. However, the most wlecome surprise was that there was no pushing Catholic beliefs in my face. It was all there to study, or ignore, but absolutely no 'must do'. I openly told all I met that I was in no way a believer, but was interested what it meant to others. Very few were prepared to tell me.

As a travelling holiday I can't recommend it highly enough. Several different caminos all unique. Camino Frances is the most popular and is often over crowded. Personally, I would suggest Camino Norte, Via de la Plata and Camino Ingles. Or, even exploring some of the alternative/pagan routes.

Going to summarise in more detail on my blog later. Just bumping this because even though you all hate me, I think many here would enjoy a camino experience immensely :)

ah well there's always plenty of fear & loathing in cyberia, as IRL, but i've enjoyed my rare vicarious forays into your adventures & fwiw i found your journalling journey rather inspiring. i hope your stay in the mountains is free of bedbugs. may all your avocados be ripened to perfection

Interesting to be reminded of this old thread. Elsewhere Stanley made the remarkable claim of having raised €100,000 for charity. And yet on this very page he said:

Anything over the €10K (assuming I make that) I get to keep and share with my assistant
I was going to make a comment here but actually, I don't really need to, do I?

I'm off again.

You will all undoubtedly be pleased to read I am going to walk from Valencia to Santiago via Cuenca and Burgos raising lots and lots of dosh for charity whilst getting fat myself.

Then, I will rent a farmhouse on the North West coast of Spain. That's the plan anyway, but someone I met a few days ago could change everything.

No more fuckwits and naysayers please. It's all in a good cause.

Dude, is not fucking Baltic out there right now.
No sleeping in caves you big plonker.

Hotel accommodation is not a financial issue these days. I have cracked the big money artist league :)

Every penny I raise will go to a new charity to provide camino experience with a mentor for disadvantaged people. Something I am more proud about than cracking the artist Premier League (well, First Division at least).

Any of the fuckers here slagging me off and libelling me come anywhere close to such achievements?

That said, I will possibly be sleeping in a cave tonight (with the beautiful people). A very freaky long summer here in Granada. It's still like September.

I have heaps of work to fiish here in Granada first. Unexpected roll of extremely good luck. I get mixed reports about Valencia. Don't know what to expect, but I do know I already have about 2 weeks of quality work lined up. I'll also be on the streets working big. Come laugh, throw eggs, do what you like - you'll be the only one not in awe of amazing art and likeable persona :)

It's nice here :)

Come laugh at me, but not today. Totally no sleep fucked and about as grumpy as they come. Gave the bus driver a mouthful this morning for talking to some incesantly loud passenger whilst I was trying to sleep :o

If you know any cheap pensions/hostals - please tell.

You do know that a persona is a fake personality that one presents to the world in lieu of one's real nature?

Of course :)

Fucking cold and wet here. Valencia is never supposed to be cold and wet. Where did they get their persona from hey?

Bar staff are complaining.

Everywhere in Spain I go during winter the locals claim that it's not the norm. "Oh no - we don't get winter in these parts" they say. Es no normal!

I need to make some fucking cash quickly  Fuck off rain and cold.

were you sitting painting opposite the mercado central a few days ago?

were you sitting painting opposite the mercado central a few days ago?

Nope. Not me.

I thought I had managed to get permission to work Plaza de la Virgen this weekend, but Polcia Local were insistent I hadn't. Off to ayuntamiento again tomorrow to try and secure a pitch through Christams and possibly New Year. Authorities allowing I will be sketching BIG all around the cathedral and Plaza de la Virgen. If I don't get permission - I fuck off towards Cuenca. Pretty much at their mercy. I can make good money here with permission, but risk losing all if I don't get permission.

The market is a fantastic place to sketch and paint. Just that there is no suitable space for my large scale work. A Kilo of sweet juicy clementines for just €1 :)
