Do you like pickled eggs?

Not an enormous fan of pickled eggs tbh. Not bad, but meh.

However, did you know that they are responsible for a really quite alarming number of accidental deaths each year? They are the kind of thing that people tend to eat whilst pissed, they are slippery, and they are just the right size to completely obstruct your trachea. Jobs a good'un

 you're a strange one:confused:

So you're another one of those freaks who get their kicks out of this ovoid filth?

What is the world coming to?

*barfs*

:(

eta: I've never actually had a pickled egg but, like green eggs and ham, I just know it's bad news.

What's the alternative? Serving them in a communal vat for apple-bobbing stylee consumption?
some people just present it to you in a little wrap of paper

I mean, in a world where we have perfectly good pickled onions and pickled ghurkins, why would we need to pickle an egg?

I bought a jar last week - six eggs for 80p. They are lovely sliced over a salad, or we had them with chips and cheese and onion pies.

Stick owt in vinegar and I'll eat it.

Yes, I've even seen them in Pubs on the South Coast!!!

But I don't go drinking in the south coast - I do go to pubs here though and haven't ever seen a jar of pickled eggs!

My point was that that it certainly isn't a Northern thing.

what pubs sell pickled eggs?

Is this another northern thing?

Plenty in Scottish pubs as well & chippers, bakers, anywhere that sells traditional take-out food really.

Bleurgh!

Can't say I've ever noticed them in pubs but fish and chip shops in the midlands always sold them.
My mother used to make her own, mmm...

Loads of pubs *used to*, plenty still do and no, it's not a Northern thing.

Every traditional London boozer, especially those in the East End, used to have pickled eggs behind the bar. You wouldn't have dared not stock them back in the day, just in case the Krays popped round and mocked your poorly stocked, eggless bar.

I got a bumper pickled onion on its own little dish at a pub in the summer. It was skittering round all over the place and quite the little bastard to catch. Made my eyes water too - fucking lush. Dub was totally horrified.

I reckon a single pickled egg can prolong a drinking session by about 3 hours (estimated drink rate at 1 pint per half hour, alc 4.5% bv) before takeaway, bed, the floor becomes irresistible.

it's cos noone ever eats them, they just sit in their yellowing water at the back of the bar for years and years.

they would still taste lovely even after that long

Pickled egg tossed into a bag of crisps eaten at a bar.. yum.

Is the correct answer.

Don't know all this stuff about not seeing them in London, every local I've ever had in London would have a pickled egg if you asked. Has to be said they can vary in quality. Had a rather rubbery job from a chippy in Hove earlier this very year. Can recommend the p.e in The Canton on South Lambeth Road though.

We've got a good line-up in the 'love them' group. I'd happily go to war with you fine people fighting besides me.
I'd follow you over the top sarge

I have never tried a pickled egg, but I think I would probably like it.

I like eggs.

I like pickled stuff.

The combination sounds like a winner.
