Picking up pizza with your hands in Pizza Express

I used my knife and fork to cut the pizza into tiny 16ths tonight, then ate them with my fingers. No one died.

Is this in any way acceptable? It's bloody hard to get though a whole pizza of theirs with a knife and fork, so I tend to grudgingly eat the middle with a knife and fork, but pick up the crusts to eat them. Does this make me a repulsive slattern?

Where does the line lie with eating pizza out and whether you use cutlery or your hands? Does anyone even pay attention to whether other people eat with their hands in Pizza Express?

:hmm:

I don't think I've ever seen anyone eat pizza with a knife and fork.

Otherwise you just end up with your fingers covered in grease.

Although there's a tendency for burger places now to charge around £10 a go and then justify it by giving you an absurdly tall burger, stacked with all manner of stuff like a Scooby Doo sandwich, which only stays together because a stake has been driven through its heart. And eating those buggers with hands alone is tricky.

A burger is a type of sandwich. Do you eat a ham sandwich with a knife and fork?

One of the things I love about being on this board with a lot of UK people: no matter how long I've been here, you retain the ability to totally stun me with something that comes straight out of left field. :D

This is nonsense. Everybody knows that you should eat pizza with a soup spoon tilting the plate away from you.

Spaghetti however should be eaten with a knife and fork. Obviously a cake fork and a fruit knife. Don't they teach these basics at school anymore?

Pizza Express pizzas have a really thin crust so they're next to impossible to easily eat with your hands. They are the best pizzas mmmmmmm a forkful of mostly topping with some of that salad with that tasty dressing

Yeah, Pixxa Express is closer to proper Italian pizza, not the deep-crust abomination invented by North America.

It's standard to eat them with a knife and fork in Italy too.

I've had some brilliant pizzas in Italy where the pizza crust was cracker thin, really crisp. And not too heavy on the cheese either.

Calzone are good for hand held eatings.

Yeah - calzones are designed for it. Same idea as the Cornish pastie.

Really now? dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot

when an american friend arrived in this country he was annoyed cos he couldn't find anywhere that sold those

They're easy to find!!!

I met an Israeli girl in India once who based a whole lenghty anti-India rant on the fact that her and her friend had been unable to find a western style toilet brush for sale anywhere....
