Im still making my mind up - here's my thinking

Argentina - Not playing well enough under Maradonna - cant see it

Brazil - Big chance - South Africa is also on the same latitude, so there may be a geographical advantage!

England - I think SA is a comfortable place for England to play - they all go golfing here anyway - theres no time lag - the tmeperature will be mild (under 20 degrees) - a strong England squad couldreally do it with a fair wind. Ive got a good feeling about it, but I wont bet on them, cos if they win thats reward enough!

France - pah! non this time.

Germany - Ive got a hunch about Germany this year, seems others on this thread do too. I havnt seen them play recently, all ive seen is Ballack at Chelsea, and he seems to me a little past his prime. Anyone got any info on the German squad and their form?

Italy - I had a tenner on Italy last WC, and they're always contenders, but to win it two times in a row would be jammy.

Spain - Obviously on fire, seeded 1st, but I dont think Torres is having a good year this year (didnt score in any qualifiers, Liverpool etc.), so based on that I think they wont make it all the way.

Portugal - Ronaldo and my favourite Nani - I bet on them at the last Euro 08 and it didnt happen - looathe to do it again. So i wont.

Holland - I think the Dutch relation with South Africa will make any outright victory impossible- I believe in the influence of these kind of pyschogeographic factors.

USA - One day not that far off the USA will win the WorldCup, but not yet.

Ivory Coast - Hopefully will come 3rd or 4th.

So in terms of a bet that leaves me with Germany and Brazil. A tenner on Germany and a tenner on Brazil for insurance and I should be cool. Also delusional about England and may well bet on them as well, despite what I said above! For this poll I'll go Germany (I like a 12-1 bet!), but I think Brazil really - England really do have a good chance though.

Spain were so much better than everyone else in the Euros, and notched a magnificent 100% in qualifying. I can't see past them. You also need a bit of luck somewhere in a knock-out, so they might fuck it up, but I reckon it's Spain's to lose.

.
Liverpool rely on Torres more than Spain, I think. Most people now think that the top club teams would beat the top international teams, but I'm not so sure with Spain. I think Spain would beat most if not all club teams. I'd certainly fancy Spain against Liverpool, even if Torres were playing for club against country. What impresses me most about Spain is that they play expressive, attacking football, but from a solid base in the holding midfield. They're a complete team.

ETA: Spain haven't lost a competitive match for over three years!

I remember at the start of the Euros last year, Lineker asked the panel for their tips, and Hansen said "I don't have a clue so I'll just go with Germany". :D
