Physical reactions to games

When I used to play Time Crisis games on the big arcade machines I used to duck a little whenever I saw a bullet fly towards the screen. That's the most I have ever been immersed in a game.

Yeah i used to play a lot of football. I kinda feel my body poising and uncorking a bit when i go in for slide tackles as well and have noticed when i dont do that i wquite often get the timing wrong. I think its basicly my mind going "now" and telling my body iu want to tackle. Who knows might be some to do with my dispraxia as well.

I've found I do that a lot too. My right foot often "opens out" when I'm passing as well, just as if I was playing for real

Aloo people im trying to gather thoughts and experiences on our physical reactions to games... i posted a similar thread in th science forum but thought i may get a few more responses here (where the gamers lurk)

Have any of you noticed how people playing racing games sometimes physically 'duck' under the bridges? similar to when we flinch watching gruesome films but im more interested in how the interactivity in games can confuse our simple, screen atrophied brains into treating them as real.

Does anyone have any other relevant examples? Or speaking more broadly, examples of how games have affected your minds while/after playing?

I remember being brainwashed after playing the sims for too long... i started imagining the grid on the floor of my room, and how i may rearrange the furniture like you do in the game...

any more general thoughts are also welcome...

What coursework are you pumping us for information for?
Or is it for some sort of article?

I'll play along though. (btw guys he wants reaction whilst playing not side effects once stop playing and in real world)

I'm doom (original) i used to physically jump when mobs snuck up behind me and started munching on me.

I've leaned when leaning around corners in Rainbow 6 Vegas (as if it will allow me to see)

Also occasionally when making chars jump i sort of try and jump myself up by bobing my head up, as if thats going to give em the extra momentum needed.

lightweights...

you want to see what happens in our house when a grenade goes off in COD4 or CSS.

COD4. I used to say 'fuck' a lot at first but now getting naded is like second nature.

Also in COD hear the twang of a claymore, Nooo... run... ah shit.

I've just finished a 16 hour marathon of Tetris. My phyical reaction has been to pile all my books and records into similarly coloured stacks in the spare room, which looks very very neat but now i can't get in there to turn off the light :(

helo sorry for the absence.. to marius, this is for my dissertation,

doom for me too was terrifying.. i was pretty young at th time, i remember the BOOM BOOM BOOM footsteps of the rocket-launcher-goat-demon thing giving me chills+goosebumps

leaning around corners.. thats another i used to do constantly (i recall being quite embaressed when sum1 once saw me do it)

im glad u replied dave.. thats mighty intersting. This is an idea i often come back to... how playing games which simulate activites we do alot could let real reflexs kick in, because we are engaged and trying to acheive the same goal (no pun intended) Whats impressive in your case is that most of the peeps here have been talking about 1st person games, or 3rd person as in tombraider or driving sims... but i wouldve though gettin these reactions from a body shown from the side like in footy games is more complicated.

Stuctaural.. thats an AWESOME story, i may well quote u on it

oh and good luck paulie.. my thoughts are with you
