Stanley, that's part of the problem. It's something like 4300 km from here to Toronto. We stopped as much as possible, but if you stop and explore everything, you just won't make it, if you have limited time. As a result, you must simply pass through a lot of territory, by necessity. But even though you're passing through, you're still taking something in, more than we would have if we'd simply flown to Toronto.

What these pics are, are a sample of what you see if you drive across canada in a car. I'm sorry that you find my country drab, but all things are in the eye of the beholder, aren't they? I find the place to be quite beautiful, and I find it fascinating to explore.

Erm...YES. Exactly.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't find your country drab if I ever visit. I never said that. I said your photographs are drab. Very different thing. I'm very dissapointed to find out that you aren't being ironic.

Not really meant as a dig at you or, your pics. More a dig at a car driven society in times when innocent little children are being BOMBED TO FUCKING HELL to keep your tank full and your life convenient. It's always this way mind.

Your photographs (with one noticeable exception, very early on in the series) are exactly what anyone would expect from a snapper in an isolated pod. As such, they have merit for their comment.

It's all a bit Mulder & Scully without the SFX. An inverse TV without the drama. Potentially a good exhibition for all the wrong reasons.

Not in a good mood at the moment.

Sorry!

Why not be clear: you don't like my politics, so you don't like my photos.

Yes, children are dying, but I went on vacation anyway. I didn't even wear black during the trip.

Callous? My guess is that you're living your life pretty much as you did before July 12, just as I am.

This isn't the p&p forum. Why not leave your gibes there. This forum and thread have nothing to do with that, and I'm not inclined to argue politics with you here.

If you don't like these photos, stop viewing them; it's really that simple.

Johnny, You need to start editing. I lost interest a while back.

And also, a journey through a windscreen with a notation of where, when, what time etc, is meaningless.
I believe that photograph's of a Journey are in the relm of psycho-geography. I would find your images more interesting if they were taken as a response to the wanderings of your mind and the landscape floating past at that time. They are, for the most part quite obviously not I'm afraid.

It's the mood at that point that made me snap mine.

Admittedly, I've gotten a little slack. Originally, the pics were entered in sequence, but due to a lack of upload access on the trip, I developed a backlog.

Coming home, I've been going through the photos, and putting them up as themes, etc, which isn't consistent with the original format.

As for the content, most of them were taken while I was piloting the car at 100 - 120 kmh, so there was only a short space between inspiration and execution. They do reveal the operation of my mind, in that they're like a split second word association game, but done with images. I got good at seeing something I like, then quick-drawing the camera, turning it on, and shooting. Unfortunately, some scenes change dramatically with the passage of a few hundred meters down the road, even in a landscape this expansive.

As for editing, I came home with approx 1100 images, so I am in fact doing that. There may not be many more posted, as I'm getting tired of poring through the images; we'll have to see.

As for intent, my original one was to give an impression to you Europeans of what it's like to drive through 11,000 kms of Canada, the vastness, the diversity, etc. Hopefully, a little of that has come across.

ALL digicam images require post capture processing...FACT! :p
I'd agree. Post processing of film is down to the skill of the darkroom operative - digital just means we can do it on a pc with the lights on :D

Actually the reason I posted on this thread was to try and find a site I saw a long time ago which has some relevance; this guy had figured out a way of making his bedford van back fire almost on demand and had strapped a rear facing camera to the back - the result was some excellent pics of people's reactions to very loud noises :D Anyone else seen it?

Some of the photos are really interesting, some are just not very good, as in too dark, badly composed, not enough going on to be interesting.

Personally I'd like to see some contextual info so that I knew more about what the photo depicted. It may be that the photo is depicting something interesting but without the info it just looks like a not very good photo of a building and a road.

The Outdoor World store was interesting, I'd appreciate some commentary about it and the lifestyle that goes with it, do affluent people shop there, poor people, whole familes, do kids own guns and go hunting? It seems to be a very different culture to ours so to me it's very interesting and I want to know more about it.

Just a tip, but for the outdoor shots, I would take the photos in the first and last 2 hours of the day as this is when the light is the most beautiful. Everything becomes illuminated with a gentle fire that beings out the best in everything and you also get some cool shadows. I would drive the rest of the time and walk around and take the best photos I could at the best time.

Your show though, so your descision.

IMHO, I think this is exactly the sort of thing that would make these sort of pictures arse achingly dull.
