I guess what I'd want to say is that making the forms and/or light alone the subject is still a special and deliberately restrictive case of 'the subject'.
I've been thinking about the rest of what you said and I'm concluding that it would be a very good personal project for me to set myself to try to come up with ways to convey some of that personal meaning, e.g. about the abiding marks of human influence on British landscapes or anything like that, which makes a picture meaningful to me, but not automatically anyone else.
I'll have to get back to you on that when I've figured out where to start
