Phillips - 'Racial ghettos may appear in UK'

I'm not sure that's true. Whenever Eltham is mentioned in relation to race (re: Lawrence) it is always said how white it is. Likewise when the BNP were pushing ahead in places like Dagenham and Becontree the whiteness of the areas was always an issue.

And it's pretty obvious that white ghettoes in a place like London are much more noteworthy than many rural areas which don't have much in the way of employment etc to attract significant numbers of immigrants in the first place.

And the way that the Oldham riots were reported came close to a declaration that, alongside the Pakistani and Bengali ghettoes like Glodwick and Werneth are the white ghettoes of Fitton Hill and parts of Hollinwood.

Although I'm not sure that the word ghetto was actually used for either white or Asian areas. It was, however, the implication.

"Ghetto" the word was used by some reports:
Even in the Asian News:

Cr your reply about whites wanting people to live seperate is the same a what GY is saying .. when most white people live in white areas it is really not suprising they say this .. it is the same misunderstanding of the stats as GY has done

Don't really understand your point. All I was saying was that it was not good that over 40% of white people said they want racial segregation. What is there to misunderstand in saying that?

sorry but you are missing the point .. look most non white people live in mixed areas and tend like most whites in mixed areas to be more 'cosmopolitan' for want of a better word

as with GY stats, most whites live in white areas , not mixed .. no ones fault .. devon ceredigion grampians sunderland whatever .. where people have a higher level of 'outsiderphobia'

if you do a survey that is equal / balanced you would look to mixed areas .. where surveys mostly give the stats that white people are often LESS racist / more accepting cultural differrences/ more acceptable for mixed culkture marraige etc etc etc than their non white neighbours

Out of interest what evidence have you got to back this up?

Also I don't think whether people mix with other races is the most important factor in whether people are racist or not, far from it. I know plenty of people in mixed race relationships who are still racist.
