Right. So you've never been stuck behind someone who has gone in to pay and for whatever reason spends forever sorting that out and then for reasons equally bewildering, get back in their car and spend a stupid amount of time doing heaven knows what before they deem themselves ready to move the 3-4 foot forward necessary for you to use the redundant pump?

This sounds so familiar. Nearly every time TBH.

The answer seems to be to avoid filling-up on a Friday night after work, or on a Sat/Sun morning.

I drive in then see who's coming out of the garage, I can go either side so just queue behind who looks like they'll be qucikest.

i usally go and stand behind a car - because i want to use a pump o the same side as my tank thingy.

Why do people do this? You can always reach the far side of a car to fill it.

But then I'm happy some people do do this as I can always get in to an empty pump while they wait for one on 'the right side', the dozy buggers

Why does using a pump that's available which others haved shunned for no good reason mean I'm 'in a hurry'? Utterly bizarre

If it's busy I drive forward from the pump before I pay. Then I can relax and fart about in the shop, looking at magazines and scotch eggs and air fresheners.

IME, there are plenty of stations with short hoses. In fact I'd only really trust supermarkets to have long ones.

No problem if I'm on the bike of course.

There are indeed. However, it's usually possible to tell which you are at.

Not always, my fuel cap is on the left side but the fuel gauge shows the other side
