Peter Falk's got Alzheimers. I am sad.

FAIL that was Nicol Williamson, aka Merlin

The Shat used a primitive VCR and a mobile phone to establish fake alibis.
That's 1993's Butterfly in Shades of Grey, alright. But you are remiss, Alex, in failing to also mention the Shats in 1976's Fade In To Murder, in which he amusingly played a TV detective. Two of the best Columbos ever, those.

I think you'll find that 'primitive VCR' is an explicit reference to the earlier episode, my not-so-perceptive colleague.

Fade in to Murder said:
Fowler goes into full throttle in planning to get the pasty Claire out of his hair and his life in a staged hold-up of a delicatessen that he found out that she's going to that night to buy herself a baloney and cheese sandwich. Getting himself an air-tight alibi by having his best pal and favorite gofer Mark, Bert Remsen, watch a baseball game with him. Fowler has him knocked out with a couple of crushed Thiobarbital pills, that he slipped into his drink, and then sneaks out, with a muggers outfit, to Tony's Deli. Catching Calire at the counter and, after knocking out the terrified owner Tony(Timothy Carey), blast Claire right between the shoulder blades hitting her heart and killing her. Fowler video-taped the baseball game that he was watching with Mark and reset the time on the clock on top of the TV and Marks $1,000.00 platinum watch. When Mark woke up, after more then an hour, it looked like he was only out for some five to ten minutes.

He was also good in Wings of Desire, one of the few adults to sense the presence of angels.

You're quite right. He uses an answer machine in Butterfly, IIRC. Funny, the similarities hadn't struck me before. That Shatner -- he can never think of anything new.

Just one ...

No, I cannot. It would be disrespectful to a great man. The one-eyed man does not get a good press, in a world where Gordon Brown and Nick Griffin represent us. He showed that you can can be monocular and not a froth-mouthed loon.

:(
missed this thread first time round - bad news.

does anyone remember the name of his dog in the show?
raverdrew and i are convincing ourselves that we have the early onset of alzheimers in not being able to remember it...
/bad humour & real life crossover
