Pete Doherty - I'm The New Lennon

What are the great songs he has written?

I can't have not heard them if they're that good.

Surely.

Look I agree with the whole lets not bother slagging him off anymore. I can't find anyone to say that he's talented and can't find anything talented he's done so far. I have found lots of reviews with people falling over each other to say how amazing the Libertines were. But I've found nothing to compare him ot Morrissey, Lennon, Knopfler, or even Rolf Harris.

Please someone, show me what good stuff he's done, is there anything?

no.

no there isnt.

just straight forward 'music-scene by numbers' fan mag bollox..

the music press love there fuk ups...
kids love to hear about whats cool...the music press is like a bible to many of the yoot, now they have a idol.

I get the feeling most people here are older than 16 and thus don't have much good to say about Doherty. I think you've said what I was kinda thinking to myself, I'd always suspected this guy was overblown by the press but it pisses me off. Heck I know almost nothing about music but I bet there's some great artists out there with cracking personalities and stories but at present there seems to be a lot coverage of someone who doesn't have that much to offer.

I think calling himself the next Lennon makes him a complete cunt. >_>
but he didn't actually say he was the "next lennon" - a reporter suggested that and he said "yeah i like that"

if someone saw me play footy and said "you look like the new ronaldinho" i'd probably say "yeah! i like that!" :D

Makes a lot of people on this thread sound like right old tut-tutters. So he didn't claim to be Lennon at all.

I think Can't Stand Me Now is a very good song. it was by the Libertines tho, i think they probably have more good songs. I can't say I have liked anything that Babyshambles hav done but i haven't heard it all.

Anyone else see the picture of him shooting up in one of the Sunday papers? Pretty grim stuff. He always said he's "not that much of a junkie" and doesn't inject. I can't help feeling he's not long for this earth.

That pic looked staged as fuck to me.

At the risk of appearing hard hearted I've got zero sympathy for Doherty. A spoilt, narcisitic rich kid so up his own arse he becomes a drug addict in order to fulfill his self indulgent rock star fantasies.

or he could just suffer from Manic Depression, reportd as Bi polar (i'm not so sure) and be like anyone else on the drug.

I've heard people say he's not much of an addict, there's levels of addiction maybe, but he's still an addict.

Musically, he's talented for sure and if anything the heroin stems his talent. And he's still at the top of the good music pile!

He writes great words, he speaks for alot of people who can't afford computers. Sure he may not have come from there world but i'm sure he's in that world alot (what with his addiction) and see's enough of it to relate to his own life. He can't help having the parents he has.

As for good songs, just get the whole Babyshambles albulm, i can't get into the Libertines stuff as i don't think Carl Barat could keep up with his talent at all, Dirty Pretty Girls i mean, wtf?

As a person, lay off him. He's in a position which is certianly gonna bring bad press, he needs press as its his job that requires it so i'm sure he appreciates some of it, just not the calls for his head! Its bound to have an effect and he's sticking his fingers up to everyone who knocks him.

If ya never learn ya never know, if ya never know ya never learn. :s

I knew very little about Pete Doherty prior to his performance with Elton John at Live 8. :o And I thought the performance a bit sad I admit. He was off his nut.

Genuinely interested: What is the go with this bloke? Is he a poet? A musician? Is he an addict because he's got a predisposition towards addiction or is his drug abuse exaggerated/(somewhat) staged to provide him with some kind of rock star credibility?

I've been reading the threads here and a couple of online articles and I was of the view, especially in light of the Kate Moss/coke thing, that his life and image were largly the result of a clever publicist. But I've just read some more interviews and articles and I'm not sure now.
