People's Republic of Disco - 15th October 2005

Were you first up at the dawn of discography then? And Stick it On are late risers? Actually, me and mangakitten were wondering what the difference between PROD and Stick it On is... Not much other than the punter get to play tunes (if they request in advance of the night  ) at Stick it On....

Should loyal PROD comrades stick two fingers up to SIO then? We need to know the party line! ;)

actually, the two started at almost exactly the same time, but they started nicking our slogans after that, the cunts

Stick It On is a purely open decks night, which sucks.. it stops people who are intimidated by all the false mystique and nonsense around DJ-ing getting their tunes played. It's people showing off their 'skills' when it should be abou the music. Plus, having to tell them in advance what you're planning to play is bollocks. it means they can choose who plays based on their own preferences, and it takes the surprise out of it.

and they're a bunch of corporate event sluts too.

Seems true - Stick it on seem to continue to fetishise 'The Superstar DJ', and let you buy into it.

PROD (and for that matter B+P) was all about people who love good music, bringing their good music and dancing to it. The mode of delivery was unimportant.

the PROD web site doesn't have pop-ups, doesn't need you to download some extra bit of software before you can look at it and it's red and black

we have moral superiority, better slogans and a better colour scheme on our side

The People's Republic of Disco - accept no substitute!

I have to say that their website is a horror of pop-up, spinny Flashturbation.

Red and Black is the colour of anarchism. Some bint on the tellybox said so last night, so it must be right! Arf!

Since Stick It On are a bunch of Logo Stealing Flash Happy Corporate Pig Whores (or something) I shall stay in on saturday night drinkuing champagne and snorting good stuff with my boy to celebrate my birthday, rather than gracing Stick It On with my presence.

Ahh...the things I do for PROD!

take some small solace in the fact that their website is one of the shittest I've ever seen. It is truly hideous!

No it's arachno-cynicalism or somesuch what adopts the red n black.

I'll ask if I can come. If I can find anyone to ask. :(

er, yeah. really - I was quite open to them to start with, seemed like a similar thing and well intentioned etc. I didn't envy them mind as open decks are a bit of a pain, switching DJ's every 15 mins. Unless they all know what they're doing, which isn't really the point is it?
but they were on before us at Lost Vagueness and it was just tedious.
PROD's quicker turn round gives more people a chance to get their tunes in, and if you clear the floor then it's off 'cos other people have brought good tunes which (usually) helps us to keep the mood bouyant and the hips-a-shakin' etc.
