Here's what i've done so far in my life.....

No full-time jobs :o currently unemployed (3rd time of the fly) and a part-time uni student.

Arcade/fruit machine dismantler -Oldbury, Warley (i.e. Sandwell Metro Borough) This job involved breaking up old and out of date arcade machines i.e. Mainly fruit machines and the odd arcade ones as well and keeping any parts of the machine to be recycled. The pay was lousy and the best part of the job was collecting the coins, which were stuck behind or in front of the machine(s) that i was working on. It was my first summer job, after my second year at my local tech college.

I quite enjoyed the job, a bit strange for me to say that, because it was a good stress reliever, especially on a shitey day! ;)

Did some agency work in Dudley at a local pie factory lifting the pastry form a dough machine at a pie factory. I got the tin-tack after i told one of the advisers (consultants) that i couldn't come in because i injured my shoulder after 2 days work - never again!

Part-time Glass Collector/Cellarman - I worked at a nightclub in Wolverhampton for nearly 4 years. Mostly enjoyed the jobs, enjoyed meeting a good cross-section of clubbers from various backgrounds. Not forgetting the afterparties! Again the pay wasn't good, i got messed arounf a bit by the management, thus i left.

Part-time Sunday, Menswear Sales Assistant. At the cathedral of out of town shopping malls i.e. The Merry Hill (or Hell as the locals call it) Centre. Worked at River Island initially for the xmas period, then after that i was offered the sunday position. The only thing i missed about the job is the 30% staff-discount, plus some of the people i worked with.

Helped with the Open Day at Wolvo (Wolverhampton) Uni as a student guide for the open day visits for 3 days.

Royal Mail, Wolver- Did some work as a xmas casual in the massive mail centre i.e North West Mids depot. Nearly a 2 yrs later i worked as a part-time postie at Dudley Delivery Office, i did that for 6 months, i reluctantly quit the job. Because it clashed with my part-time studies at uni.

Parcel Sorting Deckhand, Smethwick, Sandwell Borough - My most recent job that i've done. It was mainly sorting out various sizes of parcels and bulk goods into a trailer, suing a scanner. Plus setting up all the scanners for the supervisor on the section that i was working on, go on well with most of the blokes at that hub warehouse. I left that job because of family commitments i.e. doing my bit to look after my dad.

No, I worked with a man who did but i couldn't stand him so he put me off :o

Do they still have detached youth workers in the UK, or have they become semi-detached?

wow! Some people have had tons of interesting meanderings :)

Loads more interesting than doing just one thing, methinks (unless you really love that one thing, of course)...

So far, I've been a

bookseller
au pair
violin/piano teacher
homeless drop-in centre worker
network support (ahem) *officer*
IT manager
systems administrator
recently part-trained as a mechanic

I am vaguely thinking of having a *career break* and becoming a truck driver/diesel mechanic for an overland adventure travel company for a bit though (once I've got the HGV license) !

I have enjoyed/am enjoying all my 'careers' (though don't think of myself as a career, person really - just bimble from one thing to another)....I love trying a bit of everything, really! :)
