I think it would be interesting to have an older doctor - more like a Patrick Troughton/Jon Pertwee type. Or a younger doctor with an older assistant - for instance Clive Swift's character from "Voyage of the Damned" - just to give a different dynamic

Possible, but tbh I'd rather see a youngish Doctor with his daughter Jenny as the companion - and an ordinary Earth bloke who fancies her. That gives you some interesting character dynamics as he pines after her, and the Doctor comes over all "overprotective father".
