Pearl Jam were the poor man's Screaming Trees IMO. It was a tragedy that the former became fairly massive at one time while the latter languished in relative obscurity. Still, Lanegan has had the wit to do a variety of different stuff, including some superb solo albums, while Pearl Jam have been stuck in the 1992 loop, churning out the same stuff over and over again.

Lanegan is possibly the great unheralded rock god of recent times. HAd he been around in the late 60s/early 70s he would be seen us up there with Plant and Hendrix...

Just listening to the new album, the first one I've bothered with since Vitalogy.

On first listen it sounds much better than I thought it would. Now where's my old lumberjack shirt...
