PE: how to help the geeks and crybabies

To slightly change the subject, competition does not always have to be around pysical activities, there are other competitions such as :

International Astronomy Olympiad
International Biology Olympiad
International Chemistry Olympiad
International Linguistic Olympiad
International Mathematical Olympiad
International Olympiad in Informatics
International Physics Olympiad
International Science Olympiad

There is no reason why similar competive competitions could be organised on a local basis.

Not eveyone is sporty as not everyone is intellectual, i think thats the biggest mistake in schools, trying to group everyone together...

You clearly weren't as traumatised by it as I was. To go through 'I don't want her on my team, I had her last week' a couple of times a week didn't do my self-esteem a whole lot of good. Seriously - I'm so bad I stopped going to physio after an accident in my 20s because the exercises involved standing in a circle throwing a ball to one another and I kept dropping it.

Rather than suggesting yet another competitive hand/eye/ball co-ordination exercise, how about something that isn't competitive? Or that is still fun if you're rubbish? It's not fun if you keep hitting the ball off the end of the table you know. How about dancing? Aerobics? Step? Cycling? Or some other skill-based competitive physical activity that doesn't rely on your ability to judge where a ball is going? Obstacle races? Rolling competitions?

You're totally right, when I was a pimply 12-year-old (not all that long ago) my PE teacher used to make me take my glasses off on the pretext that I might break them and then make me take repeated shots at a basketball target in front of the rest of the class. This was the source of much sniggering and became a bit of a regular event that people looked forward to (specially as it gave them another excuse to beat me up afterwards), it didn't quite seem to sink in that all I could see was a big blur, never mind a target 15 yards away...we don't all have amazing hand-eye coordination either.

**hated** PE.

Why can't there be things like martial arts, or gymnastics, or weightlifting? What's wrong with having the whole class play Dance Dance Republic? (it's brilliant, by the way :D )
