Paula Radcliffe !!!

Just to borrow the above sentiment . . .

One thing I haven't been able to dismiss is that, an hour into the race on Sat night/Sunday morning, the BBC radio commentator said they were just receiving news . . . <bated breath> . . . of a Paula Radcliffe Press Conference for later on that Sunday. To repeat, this happened an hour into the race, as plucky Paula was still in the leading pack. Without knowing the arrangments, perhaps this is a manifestation of the influence of her husband (as some in this thread have suggested).

It's also interesting - though difficult to quantify - that the BBC seem to have backed off from her. Usually at this stage of a Tearful Performance, she'd be on the studio couch, a little breathless and timid, explaining how the world conspired against her again. I haven't seen or heard a thing from her since the end of the race - has she been on the BBC at all . .. .

In the end, an athlete took part in an event she wasn't fit to run. She deserves next to no publicity and promotion for that, no matter the staggering around across the course as if mortally wounded or the tears right in the face of the cameraman on cue - notwithstanding her sponsorship deals, there are thousands and thousands who tried their very best and failed at the Games, who didn't manipulate the media or the general public and who deserve real sympathy and kudos. Imo.

I suspect the game is up for Team Paula and their manipulating ways.

Good post.
Whose this husband people keep mentioning?

She won the New York marathon only last year and the World Championships in 2005 and is currently the holder of the world record time for the marathon, why the hell shouldn't she run?. This thread is confusing.
