I was going by the Daily Mail 's headline: "Mutiny as passengers refuse to fly until Asians are removed.
Passengers refuse to allow holiday jet to take off until two Asian men are thrown off plane"

But if it makes you happy, "I hope the two British men sue...."

Actually there is, but you have to trawl through an awful lot of their garbage to reach it (that's why I failed to see it the first time around):

Either way, the real issue is that people were kicked off a plane by their fellow passengers merely because they were Asian and chose to speak in a language that wasn't English.

And that is fucking disgusting.

What do you mean by "acting in an odd manner"? You appear to be labouring under the illusion that looking at one's watch is a sign of culpability.

The reaction of the passengers is a depressing but inevitable, and (in some ways) understandable sign of the times.

The public are encouraged to be vigilant, to watch for unattended items, people behaving suspiciously. Boarding a flight is an environment where people can be nervous at the best of times, and are much more likely to be feeling nervous in light of the events and ensuing media frenzy of the last week or so.

It doesn't take a great deal of imagination to see how an initial, perhaps well intentioned comment from one passenger can escalate and become group hysteria, completely irrational and out of all proportion.

What I DO however think is disgusting is the airline/airports reaction to events - there is no way these men should have been forced to leave the plane - the focus should have been on calming and reassuring the passengers, not on interrorgation of the "suspects".

More generally, what worries me is the extent to which airport protocols seem to be reactive rather than proactive at present. Surely this kind of passenger hysteria should have been predicted and procedures to neutralise it have been considered, rather than what seems to have been a knee-jerk reaction to this event?

Er ... but does this incident not demonsrate that the hysteria whipped up in the media CAN cause fuckwittery in real-life by the non-thinking (of whatever class)?

The point is that:

• The media's reporting of the other incident was misleading and linked to a lot of nasty, unpleasant and wholly class based snearing;
• The particular incident referred to had nothing to do with "hysteria whipped up in the media" and everything to do with some arsehole little kids vandalising somebody's house just because they could and;
• Some people are just fucking idiots, whatever might happen to be in the papers.

I always refuse those papers when I get onto a flight. I don't care if they are free.
