Top Secret:

"Don't take it so hard Nick, life is filled with it's little miseries, each of us in his own way must learn to deal with adversity in a mature and adult fashion."
[Sneezes into hands, screams, and jumps out a window]

The film also has some of the silliest sight gags. There's a bit where you see someone looking through a magnifying glass that's seemingly enlarging his eye. But when he takes it away, he actually has a gigantic eye.

So silly, yet so funny... :D

Airplane, it's gotta be.

I remember a blaxploitation one called 'I'm Gonna Git you Sucka' that was actually pretty funny. All these 'Scary movie/date movie/epic movie' ones look increasingly feeble though. I saw a trailer for one and couldn't imagine anything less funny.

Pigs in Space....it was a Sesame Street thing. Am I alone in being completely underwhelmed by Blazing Saddles? I saw it when it was first released and I didn't laugh once.....many many years later I saw it again and if anything it was even less funny than before.

I say Top Secret, but that film holds sentimental value for me as it was the first movie I ever hired out and watched on video. It still holds up today, though - some of it is so surreal, it's genius. And rude! When I was young the whole 'anal intruder' bit went completely over my head.

I never saw many muppet shows, dream_girl, whereas I had reams of sesame street on video to keep the kids quiet...I think it probably started on Sesame Street

I think so. At the end there always was a voice over of what will may happen in the next episode which caused all the characters to look at where the voice came from.

And Ralph the dog was the surgeon.

Ah yes, I remember it well.

Also should mention Galaxy Quest.

Galaxy Quest is a great film and to its credit it goes way beyond just being a Star Trek parody. Unlike with all the other films on that list you actually end up investing in the characters and get carried along with the story, while films in the Airplane! mold are just a string of jokes (and nothing wrong with that if the jokes are good). In spirit it's closer to Back to the Future than to something like The Naked Gun movies.

I loved it when I was 13, but it has aged really really badly.

I didn't think so when I rewatched it a couple of years ago - and my daughter loves it too. One of the things I like about it is the characters - the Princess and Lone Starr had great chemistry.

That's quite an interesting comparison :)

Top Secret is the one of these films that not many people have seen. Even most americans seem to look blank when I mention it to them. It's a shame as it has some really hilarious bits.

Airplane!
Hot Shots
Top Secret

in that order.

Galaxy Quest is a sweet little film with some laughs but doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the films above. IMHO of course.
