Here's another fact for you. Donner kebabs originated in Berlin.
Doner kebab with salad and chilli sauce in pitta may have originated in Berlin, but not the actual kebab itself.

Parmigiano (the real name for parmesan cheese) is made from cow's milk in the area around Parma, Italy - rather as roast beef is made from cattle meat. A vegetarian "version" of it would be called something else. It might come as a surprise to discover that in Italy, people eat mostly vegetables - hence the longer life expectancy that Italians enjoy, compared to the life span of the average pie-'n-chips eating Englishman.anyone know if you can get vegetarian parmesan anywhere? (preferably the ready-grated stuff in a little tub cos i'm a lazy bastard) Sadly the Italians, like most of Europe, view vegetarianism as a type of mental illness.
I'm aware that parmesan, like most cheese,is made from cow's milk. Vegetarians can eat dairy products. It's the rennet, not the cow's milk, that makes it unsuitable for vegetarians.Parmigiano (the real name for parmesan cheese) is made from cow's milk in the area around Parma, Italy - rather as roast beef is made from cattle meat. i know, i'm not too fussed about it being authentic (the "preferably the ready-grated stuff in a tub cos i'm a lazy bastard" in my OP tells you everything you need to know about my diet), just some type of generic hard cheese i can throw on pasta will do me. Can't find the twineham grange stuff, anyone know where they sell it?No. The name 'parmesan' is protected under European law, it can only be made in a certain region of Italy to a certain recipe and they don't make veggie versions. You may be able to get a veggie version of something called Italian style hard grating cheese or whatever, but not parmesan.
Perhaps, Rosa, now that we have established that you don't want to eat parmigiano, you can look around for a hard product made of vegetable fats to tip over your fast food...just be wary of hydrogenated fats, eh?I'm aware that parmesan, like most cheese,is made from cow's milk.
