Panoroma on welfare reform: a travesty of journalism?

i didn't know that, i knew he cut unemployment benefit, what a bastard!

Nigel, happy to see people die on the street then, or even suicide as has had happened in Australia where similar reforms were brought in.

VP said It's salutary that when federal welfare disability subsidies to states were trimmed in the US under Clinton's first administration, New York state's homeless population almost doubled, the ranks mostly swelled by people with mental health issues or chronic illness.
Of course, the doubling of the homelessness count didn't last long, what with homeless people being more likely to succumb to illness or die.

If you look at these links. You will see that there are a lot of people out there who hold exactly the views expressed by _angel_.

My point was about the specific phrasing used:

...that people go along with this 'there are too many of them' line

The word 'them' I can find no reference to in the links provided.

The actual argument from some is that 'there are too many on disability benefits'. An entirely different proposition to the 'there are too many of them' which was angels interpretation.

Now, linked with the phrase...

...what do they want to do gas people?

....implies that the Labour party, with a lots of other people out there, view disabled people as the Nazi's did and want to see them in concentration camps and then disposed of.

Clearly this is nonsense. It also undermines an opposing viewpoint when an argument is put this way and furthermore, is an insult to all those people, disabled included, sent to and gassed in the actual death camps.

I know angel does not mean that, but this is how it comes across.

Look pal, I'm not a cunt, ok? Stop trying to weasle out of what you said, which was:

I've supplied the links. Stop trying to be clever; you fucking idiot.

I don't know you, as you know angel; nonetheless, you come across as a wanker.

I doubt it. Like our politicians who have decided there are 'too many' disabled people who they can't believe are really disabled, cos people are like, in wheelchairs for the fun of it because £80 a week is such a tempting lifestyle choice.
i know i shouldn't but :D

Erm...I spend a fair bit of time in a wheelchair, usually when I'm away from home; and, guess what, it beats the alternative - that is, sitting at home unable to walk more than a few yards at a time.

Better a wheelie than a fucking crippled inside politician, any day!

No no no I don't 'express' those views, I was summing up what people like Nigel/ TBaldwin and all our politicians keep saying.
I completely disagree with them, surely you must be able to spot that?

Angel, the links were in response to "Where and who are these people who say 'there are too many of them'?"

Look at the links, and the common theme, whether expressed by government or the scab press is the numbers of people on IB. I didn't set out to misrepresent you.

The US welfare system is a bit mad. From what I understand there used to be a "matched funding" thing, i.e. the federal authorities would provide funds matching what the individual state spent. Clinton changed that (IIRC to a flat funding formula), and so states were left to decide where best to spend their (shrinking) pot of money, and that's what encouraged many states to make some welfare payments time limited and/or conditional.

Ahem, where on this thread did I call you a cunt?

Quote to where the words 'there are too many of them' are used in that stack of links?

Your shining knight in armour routine has backfired Sir Lancelot and if anybody comes across as a wanker it is you.

Oh alright then.

Now fuck off, ok?
