Pancake Day/Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday

I don't know :o

With yorkshires I put the tin and fat in at the start of the roast, so it's fucking spittingly smoking hot when I pour the batter in (it sizzles). The same with pancakes, the pan has to be hot as fuck. I find with pancake batter the measurements can be less exact (I never measure and weigh out for pancakes, but always for yorkshires), but if your pan is fucked I think they'll always stick :(

Savory niceness 'in a crepe' for me is going to be roasted peppers and goats cheese with a bit of rocket, then have a sob and miss my French ex gf who used to make this(not really), hmm I'll try to think of summut else...Gruyere cheese is seriously nice in em too

Much too healthy!

If you don't go for the lemon and sugar option, banana and nutella is next best:cool:

no, no, am gonna do the appley one AND suga'n'lemon (not all on the same pancake though). will have to do loads to ensure I get enough chances to sample the recipe though, I wouldn't want to make a snap judgement or anything :D

I'll give it a good go tonight - make sure the pan is really hot :)

I make 'em every Saturday for breakast, the kids just aren't getting this "pancake day" thing, they just think I won't be at work :(
6tbsp flour
1 egg
add milk till it's consistency's like double cream.
Add to hot pan
Works every time for me. Flipping ace!

The apple and cinnamon one sounds good for pudding.

I've never made pancakes before, I'm quite looking forward to it.

Pancakes.

4oz SR flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tblspns castor sugar
Pinch salt
1 medium egg
1/4 pint milk

Usual score: mix dry stuff, make well. Add egg, then milk. Leave to rest at least half an hour.

Hot, lightly greased pan. Pop in spoonful sized dollops. Turn when they bubble.

Yum.

Yeah, an hour or more so the flour expands. I think that's more to do with taste than anything though.

If you use plain flour you don't need to let them stand :)

If you're making thicker scotch type pancakes (:p) with self raising flour then I guess you leave them to stand for the bicarb to start working.

We have pancakes quite often so we're not gonna bother tonight.

You should ALWAYS use plain flour, and you should still let it stand :p

sounds like a recipe for scotch pancakes to me, not normal, proper pancakes.

Tbh I always used to.... I thought it was to do with activating the gluten in the flour, but I have a Delia cookbook and she says you don't need to

One of these essential. I'm lazy about it and mix everything in there. Makes it a doddle to pour evenly into the hot lightly buttered pan.

Not making any tonight as I still have a batch from last night. :o

I thought I'd got out of making pancakes.

Just taken b/f to dentists and popped to Sainsbury's after. Right by the tills there's reminders

Does anyone have some suggestions for savoury fillings?

I fancy smoked salmon, cream cheese and rocket, with a bit of lemon juice and black pepper.
That sounds good. I'm going for spinach with creme fraiche and grated cheddar (cos I haven't got any ricotta).

If you can be bothered, make a few with a savoury filling, put them in an ovenproof dish, cover with a cheese sauce and bake.

I have crepes - ready made (BOGOF - my mum gave them to me). I have lemon and sugar. And forest fruit compote and greek yoghurt

Why don't you buy eggs?

Eggs(as food and the smell of them cooking) make me feel sick. I don't understand why veggies eat eggs. They are an animal product.

I can't explain it any further because I'm feeling nauseous just thinking about it.
