Palm Quatro: first picture?

I'm so nearly over Palm, so unless they pull something fucking amazing out of the bag, then I'm an ex-customer.

Even the tried and trusty Palm OS tweaked around a bit and given an eye candy makeover and wi-fi won't be enough now.

Someone in the comments had a great line: this will be an epiphany or epitaph...someone else seems to think it's Nova, based on the fact that the n is capital, it mentions newness and apparently nova means new in Portuguese! I don't know what kind of mind can link that all together but it made me smile...

TBH I think they would be best making some solid hardware and sticking android on it. Even if the new OS is good, its another platform for developers and I'm not sure we need one.

If I'm still using a Palm this time nest year, I'll be truly amazed. Even if the new OS is made of pure condensed win, drizzled with stylish looks sitting on a bed if slimness, without a big developer community behind it, it's not even going to get close enough to sniff the iPhone's long departed footprints.

Which is a shame as I like the form factor of Palms devices and they had crossed my mind as a replacement for my nokia. The other form factor I think should be copied is nokia's communicator as like you I like keys. That way you get a big screen, keys and protection for the screen.

New rumours has the new Palm phone having a slide out qwerty...

Just prior to its big unveiling at CES later this week, a few additional details have been leaked about Palm’s upcoming flagship phone. The new handset will supposedly be a slider with a full QWERTY keyboard and a portrait touchscreen. It will have full PIM support, email support and media playback capabilities. Production of the new Palm will most likely be outsourced to HTC and will launch with a full complement of applications. With the phone being described as “iPhone-like” and the new OS as being “amazing”, we cant help but start to get a little bit excited about Palm’s new offering.

Maybe that $100 million equity investment by Bono and company may turn out to be money well spent and we sincerely hope we’re wowed on Thursday. Palm’s efforts leading up to and following the announcement this week will likely end up making or breaking the company as it simply can’t continue much longer on the same track.
A mock up:

Palm have done a great job keeping it all under wraps. That announcement about Palm New took everyone by surprise.

Three days to go.

Hmm, its not so bad? 100 times better than the other two.

If its cap touch screen and there is the option of a virtual keyboard for casual input, it could work well. Looks reasonably nice.

I quite like the look of that. I'm not normally a fan of slidey-out thing-majigs, and I was considering going for the Nokia E71 next, but it'll be nice to have more choice!

In terms of actual hardware shots it seems so but the new os was expected this year.

It was supposed to launch in 2007 and if its as decent as its supposed to be, then if they had released it then, then perhaps Palm would be riding high. So the OS release is well known and well delayed.

What's not well known is what it looks and operates like.
