Palm Centro phone coming to the UK!

What the fuck are you on about now? I can guarantee that you're talking utter bollocks and the 'smartphone war' will still be raging in a few months.

The war will be over but Palm and it's frantic frothing at the mouth fanboys won't realise it for a few more years yet. Apple has won, long live King Jobs! :D

Ah, thats what I needed...! I wonder when he will come up with some original points on the iPhone. There are many interesting issues and developments, and constantly bring up old issues is dull. I thought he was supposed to be some kind of Mobile Phone Expert...

I will check back later because he usually comes up with interesting points..:D

He's lost the capacity to debate honestly due to his Palm obsession. He'll keep purposely misquoting or misinterpreting peoples posts while they are negative toward his one true love. God help anyone who dare say anything useful about a non Palm product! I think it's time we changed the forum name to Computers, Palm phones and Palm gadgets!!:D:D:D

*bows to Palm Overlord Editor in hope of not being smited due to heresy*

I can't be arsed with these personal attacks. I've never claimed to be "Mobile Phone Expert" and far from being obsessed with Palm, I said this only a few days ago.
I'm resigned to the fact that my Centro may well be my last Palm OS device if the Android gets anywhere near the Palm's ease of use and functionality (their work with Googlemaps suggest they may well).

Oh, and only a complete idiot with no understanding of the market would declare the 'smartphone war' as being 'won' by Apple already, especially seeing as Android is coming over the horizon at a rate of knots and companies like Sony are producing incredible new handsets.

But I don't suppose you're interested in a serious debate, only scoring cheap points with smartarse insults and obsessively slagging off Palm - your bizarre "make up a ridiculously high price and then condemn the product because of it" Foleo nonsense proved that. Very odd.

(edited because it's not worth the bother)

Back on topic, Palm have just announced that the 1 millionth Centro smartphone has been sold.

The phone has proved a massive hit in the US since its in September 2007 with Palm claiming that the Centro is reaching almost double the number of women, more than double the number of customers under age 35, and nearly three times as many customers with a household income of less than $75,000 than its Treo range.

The Centro continues to confound its critics (and naysayers on this very thread) and shift in big unit numbers.

Such is its popularity in the States that it looks to have managed the extremely rare feat of being carried by all four US national carriers, with Verizon carrying the natty blue finish. It's also picked up good reviews in UK mags but is unlikely to reproduce its Stateside success seeing as Palm Uk seem so useless at getting networks to adopt this fantastic little phone.

Elsewhere, Palm have been sending out invitations to select customers inviting them to "test an innovative new product," with the invitation listing requirements of "heavy smartphone/email use, WiFi Router access and a current Sprint customer."

Looks like the WM 800 could be up on the horizon then...

What's the sales figures for Europe as a whole?
I've no idea, but they'd shifted one million globally by March and have since gone on to offer it in a host of other markets (South America, Mexico etc). Palm are traditionally biggest in the US though.

Windows phone with Wifi... Party like its 2005...! :D

It's rumoured to have EV-DO REV A., Windows Mobile 6, a 320x320 display, 256MB flash, 128MB RAM, a 1.3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and an expansion slot, all in the Treo's superb form factor.

That makes it as competitive as anything else out there (bar the duff camera, although the screen is higher res than most), so I've no idea what you're on about.

If only they could make a Palm OS phone with those specs!
I think palmOS would need some work before it could take proper advantage of them, though. The technical shortcomings of the OS are holding palm back in a big way - it badly needs updating. Or even replacing. Legacy apps could quite easily be supported in a virtual machine (like the Classic environment in OSX)
