And even if that was true where is "passport" in that? Are you expanding your theory to include travel to other countries changes a person from being a backwoods hick?

You're forgetting where you are. You're on a board where americans are derided in general for the small proportion that hold passports.

Is this what father time does to the JCs of the internet board community?

Where is the dogged JC of long ago? It's not the same anymore. :(

Dilute_micro,

As I say, apply what you're saying. Present evidence that Biden, relative to Palin, has not on his foreign trips been intelligent enough to take things in, misuses the knowledge he has gained, learned inaccurate information, or learned irrelevant information. Otherwise, surely, there is no point on a thread about Biden and Palin in making the points you are making.

Holy shit. :D :(

Zion, I don't have to provide evidence. I'm not making the claim. I get to lay in the hammock and pop shots at a one winged chicken trying to fly.

You continue to not realize you're assuming it to be true at the outset and demanding for me to show it isn't. That's not how it works. We're not even at the point where we can drag in an actual person. To do so is assuming "all things being equal" - which I pointed out is the main contention here. All people are not equal in their talents and abilities. For this passport idea to have a chance they would have to be. I don't think even you would argue that and should you try - I'll point out your recognition of the need to assume "all things being equal" earlier.

Again -

To say the possession (and use) of a passport makes a vice president better than one who hasn't makes these major assumptions:

1 - the visitor is intelligent and appreciative enough to take things in.

2 - the visitor will put that knowledge to use and presumably in a good way. Otherwise it's either ineffectual, unless harm was the goal, or benign.

3 - there is no error in what they think they learned there. So on that visit they interpreted everything right and that's the new knowledge they return home with.

4 - that it matters anyhow regardless of how superficial it might be.

by SOME...most here are bright enough to differentiate between those in power (whose actions are those of the State) and the poor saps gulled by them.
Sensitive, are we? thin-skinned, hmm?

Why? I've known plenty of people who's traveled the world and has no business whatsoever being in charge of a birthday party much less anything having to do with government. .
yes, but the same people, minus any experience of their own small corner of America, would be even LESS fit to be in charge, and it isn't their travelling that is the handicap, it's the dumbness they were born with (i.e. doesn't necessarily work in reverse)

Ah but don't be inclined to believe that because someone has been in charge they're more fit than someone who hasn't. Sometimes dumb people with experience make it to the top.

I'm not, and the current incumbent is the living proof of that. What I AM pointing out is that if you have two equally intelligent and perceptive individuals, the one with considerable first hand experience of the wider wolrd and how it works will prolly have a better grip on international affairs than one who's spent 99.5% of her time in Moosefreeze, Alaska

You sure about that one? I'm scratching my head but I can't think of many examples from recent history.

A passport and a visit is what we're talking about, not considerable first hand experience. And as I have pointed out - even first hand experience is no guarantee.

Dilute_micro,

I'm not alleging that the mere possession of a passport automatically makes you better informed about the world. I'm simply pointing out that this is a thread about Palin and Biden, so you might - just might - want to apply your generalized statements to the topic at hand. If you don't, then that's fine, but don't expect to convince anybody of squat, 'kay?

Of course it's fine. Fyi it's okay to apply generalized thinking, figure it out there first and then apply it to specifics. But you've got to figure it out.

I bid you peace.
