Palin starts her campaign for the 2012 nomination...

Next week: Palin Does Playboy, cougars all over the US flock to her, despite her views on abortion because 'She speaks for us, opening up her middle aged sexuality for the world to see'

Actually, with that phraseolgy, it'd probably be a Hustler spread...

Quickly followed by a genuine "Nailin' Palin" skinflick, where the gal from Alaska takes on all comers.

Oh no!!!! I can't listen to her at all, it makes me feel violent inside. I can't breathe. In Canada our current prime minister is of the same ilk as she. The conservetives

in power are one of the worst I have seen very nasty and sly. The press is only allowed controlled minimal accsess and they have some of the same pr bastards as Bush.

I am frightened that Canada will become like Bush and company's America. Please can't someone adopt me there?

All you have to do is vote the conservatives out of power....I'm assuming that you didn't vote for them in the first place.....

I think the Dems are pretty openly hoping that the GOP are crazy enough to elect Palin. She´s a good 15 points down on Obama at best, compared to less batshit contenders being 5-10 points down.

I was in Salt Lake City yesterday at a book shop and her book is being pushed big time (luckily however I didn't notice anyone interested in it)

I don't know if Palin really stands much chance of getting the Republican nomination, but even if she doesn't there are two things she's getting from her book, book-promotion, touring and speech-making - two things that she would probably have found it a bit harder to achieve if she had remained Governor of Alaska:

1. She's sustaining or increasing her fame

2. She's getting loads and loads of money

I think she likes money and fame. Even if she never gets within a 100 miles of becoming President of the USA, she'll be enjoying her dosh and her glamour, fame and ability to have her daft comments broadcast and published.

Has anyone here read her book? I have a suspicion that it's all about her, but maybe there's more interesting stuff in it too. Is there?

I believe the last poll they did she was second only to Mike Huckabee among declared Republicans voters. Along with probably a greater national name recognition than him that could push her over the top in a Republican Primary race. She´d get crushed by a Dem in a national race though.

The views of the US 'commentariat' (godawful term that is) on both sides are about as representative of on the ground feeling as it is in the UK - a reflection of that writers immediate political and social circle's latest dinner party or lunch discussions, and little else. Nixon was loathed by the Republican establishment; being disliked by the East Coast isn't a weakness for populist GOPpers; if she was being denounced by the Christian right, talk radio and the 'heartland' I'd see your point, but (so far) she isn't.

Plus after 4 years of a black liberal (sort of) running the country, the GOP aren't going to turn to a liberalGOP or paleo-con nominee...

Spot on, my view is there is a very real chance she could gain the nomination, and if that happens an even more real chance she could become president...

there´s nothing in the polls that suggests she´s got any chance of beating Obama. In fact the reality is that when Obama does nothing for his base, the only way to get them out is with a bogeyman opponent (ie. Palin). Since he´ll also be an incumbent most sensible people will realise that the sky hasn´t fallen in, so he´ll be the safe candidate.

Lastly, most American voters just aren´t as right-wing as Palin.

Palin has a similar intellect to both Reagan and Bush, so an ideal Republican candidate for the Presidency. I would expect her to be gearing up for the 2016 nomination.

Meanwhile, the American dream Palin espouses marches on.

...the Department of Agriculture has revealed that far more people are going hungry in the United States than previously thought. The Department estimates 50 million Americans, including a quarter of all children, struggled to get enough to eat last year. The number of children who live in households in which food at times was scarce last year stands at 17 million, an increase of four million children in just a year.

Source.

I don't think you can take polls seriously yet for at least another year to be honest.

nonsense. Palin´s polling 10 points behind every other potential GOP candidate. The only less population option is Jeb FFS. Look, the last 3 elections have basically shown that American presidential elections are basically 50/50. Being an incumbent was basically enough to get Bush II over the line, the enthusiasm for Obama and also the GOP running a dog turd of a campaign won it for Obama. If your GOP candidate is 10 points less attractive that the average Republicans she´s a sure fire loser in a national contest. Especially when her message primarily appeals to her base and not the centre.

GOP are far more likely to win if they elect some sane.

Yeah but none of them have even remotely started campaigning yet and probably wont for another year at the very earliest.

Paln is nowhere now and probably wont be when it matters but opinions polls for a nomination battle that is 3 years away are inconsequential.

Palin´s incredibly high profile at the moment. Which means if anything the primary numbers are higher than you´d expect. But seriously there´s no way in hell she beats Obama in a national elections. It´s just not going to happen.

Heh you're optimism is quite sweet. Have you forgotten this is the country that gave the world George Bush and Ronald Reagan? :D

I don't think she will win the nomination let alone the presidency. I'm just saying there is no point quoting polling data yet.

Who else is likely to run for the GOP candidacy? is there still talk of Bobby Jindal making a bid? Mitt Romney again?

I agree - but what do you think of her ability to split the republican (or anti-Obama) vote?

good question. Back in the 80s the republicans were the smartest at fielding a candidate but now they're the dumbest. It's as if there's a toggling between the dems and the reps on that. I think a book is one thing - meaning the republicans will seem to be behind her. But underneath they think different of her. That's what I'm guessing. I mean, she quit her job when things got tough. Yeah it's true her enemies were sticking it to her, just like they are with this book. But does she think things are easier for a president than a governor? :D

Obama's popularity has dropped a lot so whoever the reps pick will have a better chance than this past election unless there is another big terrorist attack.

ok, name any prominent Republicans to their left? I can name dozens who are to their right (off the top of my head ... Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, Pat Buchanan, not to mention every single Republicans that voted against or spoke against the bank bailout)

I'm also looking forward to seeing Glenn Beck run for the nomination, and drown his contributors at a fundraiser when someone yells out 'COUNTRY!!' :D
