Pakistan v England: Second Test.

Pakistan have consistently in my lifetime run closer than any other test country - I don't think any test nation enjoys playing them.

need a stonking bowling performance tmw to get us back into it

stonking bowling performance for a chance to win. if not then it's a draw. these 3 test series are a bit unsatisfying.

afridi should have been sent off, a ban should come in immediately as this is the match he affected.

Does any power exist to allow for such a action?

no it doesn't. what i mean to say that there should be a 'soccer type' way to remove a player from the match he offends in. i think a 3 match ban is fair enough but he shouldn't be allowed to carry on in the respective match IMHO

Cheating git should be banned for life in my opinion  There is gamesmanship and there is plain cheating, I have rarely seen anything so blatant in a first class cricket match. If this had happened at local level he would have struggled to get out of the ground in one piece ! Stamp on this intolerable behaviour before cricket heads off down the same route as football !

Oh & don't let him expect an easy ride when they tour over here either !!

Don't be bloody stupid.

Was Atherton banned for life for ball-tampering?

Did I say anything about Atherton ? Where do we draw the line ? If you are suggesting I am inferring he should be banned because he is a Pakastani and not an Englishmen you are wrong [just a guess  ] I run a junior cricket team, Asians and English and a particularly good lad with Taiwanese parentage, this sort of behaviour is something we in the junior game try long and hard to avoid. International cricket must be seen to stamp this out now. OK a life ban was probably me going a bit OTT, but I really do have a vested interest in the game of cricket and believe me what we have is worth preserving particularly if you see what goes on in some junior football, hence my comparison to said sport. So don't you be bloody stupid !

Not, a bit, entirely. If life bans were handed out for scuffing up pitches (or balls) then there'd be hardly anybody left playing professional cricket.

He was caught, he's been banned for a Test and two ODIs, which is reasonable and proportionate. What is neither reasonable nor proportionate is people mouthing off as if they were columnists in newspapers written for the terminally witless. Calling for life bans is the stuff of the saloon bar loudmouth, who would, at least, have the excuse of being drunk. However, judging by the clock I assume you cannot offer that defence?

Play ended for the day - Bad light, 391/7 still 71 runs behind.

Pretty good days play, should get pretty close to the Pakistani score, slight possibility of a result depending on if we can get 'em out cheaply tomorrow :)

I know :(

Sorry, anyhow , cricket .... let's just hope England get a result so the third test is a contest worth taking part in ! I hate these three match tests

Nice job by England - Harmo and Udal stayed together nicely at the end to get us to 446...and a very big :D for Udal hiting 16 off one Shoaib over.

Nice to see the crowd right behind Afridi, and then leave when he was bowled :D

Freddie's helped do the business in the second innings, and any lead of around 225-250 should be okay for England.

51/4. Pietersen and Fred trying to rescue us from 22/4.

Looks like we're going to have to hang on for the draw then.

We were anyway, even if we'd been 50-0. Shocking batting by the front men, playing back to full balls, and a silly shot from Bell to a short one.

28 including this one. No chance of getting them in though. England have around an hour or so till bad light intervenes, 11:40 GMT or thereabouts the players should be offered it (if we're not all out by then).

True, but it's still better than losing! Nice work by Jones and Gilo - been impressed by Geraint so far this tour he seems to have calmed down a bit and upped his game behind the stumps.

And despite his faux pas in the second innings, Bell's performance in this game was very positive.
