Thanks for repeating back to me pretty much what I'd already said in the post you quoted. Shame you had to use more words than I did! :D
i'd like to think that i basically elaborated on what you said :)

This blog by Barnett R. Rubin in Pakistan has some interesting stuff, though what he bases

They believe it is using it to perpetuate its own power in the service of a national security project that serves neither Pakistan nor Afghanistan and is doing great harm to both. Any civilian government would, for the first time in Pakistan's history, assert its authority over formerly prohibited areas of policy: Afghanistan, Kashmir, the frontier agencies, perhaps even military expenditure.

on he doesn't say. Hardly likely.

Still,

According to sources in the Northwest Frontier Province, the Taliban (Afghan and Pakistani) have established an Islamic Emirate centered in Mirali, North Waziristan, the home base of Commander Jalaluddin Haqqani (Afghan Jadran from Khost) and his son Sirajuddin. This Emirate acknowledges Mullah Muhammad Umar as Amir, but it is mainly run by the Haqqanis, with the Pakistani Mehsud leader, Baitulah Mehsud of South Waziristan, as its main public face. The Emirate has established structures in all seven Tribal Agencies, though it is strongest in North and South Waziristan and has not penetrated the Shi'a areas of upper Kurram.

is an interesting quote, but would bear a little more information.

The war on terror continues.

Right.

Just head Musharef has promised elections in February, on the insistence of the White House.

What gain would the US have in pushing for elections so soon after such chaos?

They know the result already.;)

is it just me or is musharraff really good at what he does, the press conference he held was masterful, up there on his own,im trying to keep my country together, and then the chase him to the door and he finishes off with saying i've fought in the trenches and this army will always be behind me, whther my uniform is off or not, his response to the highhorse british journalists that the people view things from a pakistani point of view rather then an european one... his prime motive is his country etc, and his poor me performance on the skynews interview today, not quite right but impressive.
