Pakistan Series: Cricket

Well... I did put in the big grin. :D But did Warne really say that? There was doubt expressed about his 'zooter' in the Guardian today, as to whether it actually existed. I thought Warne might try to pretend he still had the flipper, which he lost with the shoulder problem.

I used to listen to TMS on the computer when I was in China (on a laptop under the covers, just like the old days). A real shame if you can't do that anymore.

Yeah, I'll try it. I'm not holding out too much hope though.

We're gonna lose the first Test - defo.

After that I think we're going to be on top for the next two, but I don't reckon we've had enough practise and preparation for the first one.

It's nothing to be worried about though - there's no shame in losing to Pakistan in Pakistan. They're a good side at home and the conditions are stacked in their favour.

hands up who thinks were fucked?

no. England are very resilient these days...note how we came back from a thrashing by the best team in the world in the summer to win.

BUT

The preparation has been far from ideal. losing Vaughny and Jones is a blow but we can come through it. We need big perfomances from the senior players - Tresco, Strauss (senior very quickly by dint of his outstanding record in Tests to date) Freddie, Gilo (never thought I'd say that!), Harmy and Hoggie....

its a great Test and one we'll need to overcome on our quest to be world number 1 :D :D :D

Couldnt have put it better myself. Go England. :)

Is it me, or are they deliberately making it as difficult to watch/listen to the cricket as possible? On Sky, they've even stuck it on Sky Sports 2, which is
the one that a lot of people don't have in their packages - presumably to make them all sign up.

Jesus Christ.

Well in Pakistan I think for Harmy what we want is for him to be accurate ad tie up an end.

The pitches aren't going to suit him so to gets lots of wickets will be a superhuman effort. He just won't be as threatening out there.

He'll get a few in his new ball spells but it is Giles and Flintoff who'll have to do well if we've got a chance.

well bad light....144-6....not a bad first day...bowl them out for under 300 would be good.....depends if our batting can finslly hold it together on this tour

244-6 dude.

Yup that was a good performance indeed for the first day of the first Test. I expected them to do well today.

Well done England - they are constantly able to surprise.

Don't reckon Pakistan should've dropped Alfy.

The wicker man

Tallking of Inzamam, I very much enjoyed this piece:

Pakistan, then under Javed Miandad's tutelage, began their session with warm-ups and some strenuous training. It all bypassed Inzy, who had yet to leave the airconditioning of the dressing room. Fielding drills followed, during which he emerged, tracksuited and padded up. He wandered across to a large wicker chair by the nets and slumped down to observe the efforts of his team-mates.

Then came a net session that he also viewed nonchalantly for a while before deciding it was time for a spot of batting. So he unzipped his top, removed it, placed his green Pakistan helmet on his head, and strolled into the nearest net, where for 20 minutes he proceeded to bat like a prince, before deciding enough was enough. Out he came, collecting his extraneous gear on the way, and disappeared back to the dressing room, not to be seen again. Next day, of course, he made a century.

blimey! put the tv on at about 5.30 this morning and England were batting! then Strauss was out :( but at the moment Bell's doing ok, c'mon lad!

< kitten alert  >

my new kitten, Tommy, has remarkable taste in TV watching! Last night he sat below the screen watching the football and this morning he resumned his position to watch the cricket!

A strange line in the Cricinfo report:

The new ball was due soon after, but Trescothick wisely delayed taking it. As soon as he did, Hoggard edged out Kamran Akmal

It does read oddly but I think it's just trying to say he held off because the old ball was doing a bit.

Bell's out, to an uncalled no-ball apparently. Funnily enough he'd already been bowled off a no-ball.

Tresco's got his hundred, though he's had a couple of let-offs (dropped behind the wicket on 94 and apparently leg before to Kaneria earlier).

I agree this reads as bizarre logic

Looked plumb to me. The other one wasn't really a chance it kept very low and hit the 'keeper on the pad, not actually a drop. Fingers crossed it'll be a double-ton for Banger tomorrow, he's in top form at the moment.
