I guess living out of London for 17 years has returned me to being a bumpkin.

I'm going from Paddington to Highbury tomorrow at evening rush hour . Would Oxford Circus or Kings Cross be the better place to change?

I will, of course, stop at the top of all escalators and unroll a large map with multiple suitcases scattered around me

Either. Kings cross would be slightly quicker than oxford circus by a minute or two.

via Kings Cross can be done step-free if you've got lots of bags
(go the Hammersmith & City paltforms at Kings X)

Paddington to Kings Cross won't be too bad. The last hop to Highbury will be rammed.

Middle of the train at Paddngton (Suburban) - Hammersmith and City , gives you a slightly easier interchange at Kings Cross. Victoria line now runs at 32 trains per hour , so no major issues there - go to the back of the northbound train at KX.

That's the knowledge I've lost. It's all about the positioning on the platform
