Oyster Cards Hacked

so do I! it would save me a few grand a year!

But from what I understand they can only clone cards. Well that's what they where doing on some dutch video.

It would involve cloning a LU staff oyster as I know some of them have unlimited travel......

I read that blog. Couldn't work it out other than they might be hackable, as opposed to already hacked. Well, I think that's what it said.

No one has done it to the oyster system yet (well not publicly announced it anyway) but its been done to other systems that use the same Mifare technology. I think someone has done it to the dutch chipkaart.

Anyway The video I was talking about can be seen here:

In this they clone a staff security card in the same way you could clone a staff oyster card..............

is the 'money' stored on the oyster card itself or is it simply read and then an 'account' of some sort relating to the card debited/credited?

IIRC the problem with the old Phillips C12 mobiles you could chip was mostly down to someone being a bit of a spac and storing the credit on the phone itself

I reckon these thing might only be an issue if someone else clones your card & you'd have to get it canceled.

Stored on the card.

No its not as I lost my card once and they sent a replacement with the credit on it. I've even had credit added to my card without paying for it, all info is held in a central database. If you lose your PAYG Oyster card without registering it they'll tell you that its gone with no hope of recovering it as they keep this money to boost profits! how much does that amount to over a year of unregistered lost cards.

So i figure you would have to find a season card holder 1st. then clone his card by walking past him/her? then n ot use it the same time as the other person.

If they can hack a card hmm evening standard card, visa card its all chips to me:D
