Owen to Newcastle?

The fact is Liverpool have to BEAT Newcastles bid of 18 mill is only a smokescreen i think. They won't pay 10 mill for a player they sold for 8mill last season.Would any sensible board see that as a good business sense?I'm not sure Real would turn down Newcastles offer just to keep a player happy.Profits the name of the game and they won't turn down stupid money to appease a player.I think at the end of the day Owen will be in a black and white shirt before Saturday.I don't think there'll be a loan deal with that kind of money being offered.

£18M? Where did that figure come from? And why bother going so high when from Real's perspective they seem almost certain to accept £10/£11M?

becasue there's still money owed by real madrid to newcastle for the woodgate transfer?

well if 18mill is true that effectivly prices liverpool out the deal...meaning they will settle for takeing him ona years loan....

Real don't want a loan deal - if anything they want him to either stay his contract length (minus a year to sell him) or recoup the money. Plus there'd be a clause in he was loaned about the CL, rendering him fairly useless to LFC.

Selling Owen ain't a problem...but why sell half your midfield and your best centre back

Well the BBC reported it was a done deal earlier.

Now everyone is saying different things: Owen is saying he will go to Newcastle if a move to Liverpool falls through; RM saying the deal is done with Newcastle; Liverpool obviously aren't a part of it, bloody Owen keeps mentioning them no-one else.

How would the Newcastle fans take it though? Being made to feel second best by Owen? I can't see many of them being too happy with that.

I'd be annoyed. As much as I am it shows how far we've dropped in one season!

Bloody Shepherd and Souness

The story on RM deal, as afore mentioned is that Newcastle are effectively buying back Woodgate. Perez said he'd never deal with Shepherd and that Woodgate was a rip off. So Newcastle bid £8m over the odds for Owen, therefore taking the debt over for Woodgate. Bloody dodgy but very Shepherd

I just want to know where they get the cash from. They seem to squander as much as Liverpool on (generally) dross players, and do even worse in terms of on the pitch success. Where did the magpies magic £18 million from when the scousers are having to sell in order to buy distinctly average players in the sub £5 million category (except Crouch, he's distinctly average and cost £7)

Huge merchandise sales on a domestic level. Massive investment from local companies, notably Sage and Northern Rock and Adidas pour a lot of money in.

Shepherd seems to have everything...even the toilet seats, sponsored by someone

As a Newcastle inhabitant of 30 years and a Toon follower I don't see a problem with this "3rd Choice" angle. Everyones got to be pragmatic now and even Manyoo and Arsenal are having players turn them down. If I were Owen I'd make exactly the same choices. What you get with Owen though is honesty. What would be more value, a seasons commitment from Owen or a seasons commitment from Kluivert?

Owen definitely, but if there's no creativity in the midfield, in the way there isn't now, we could have the two best strikers in the world and they still wouldn't score.

I can't understand why there isn't more creativity from midfield though!!! Newcastle have Englands second choice playmakers in Dyer and Jenus, Bowyer is an England player and Milner showed promise.

It's the world's newest football fan. Ignore him. It's plainly obvious that Newcastle need a striker or two, but an apparent Geordie can't see that should be their priority.

Spect he'll be begging to come after another awesome performance last night.....Christ he might as well go to Wigan

me neither. Milner seems to freeze when playing in the premiership, Dyer is currently injured, jenas still isn't playing as well as 2 seasons ago.
Last night we started with 4 central midfielders and finished with 3 plus Milner. Not the cleverest.

Well Liverpool are apparently now putting in a bid at the 11th hour according to Sky Sports News, so we have no chance of signing him now!

I can understand his reluctance. He'd be made to look crap at Newcastle because Souness doesn't beleive in using wingers. Wingers get you crosses and crosses get you goals. Hardly rocket science is it? No goals from three games is exremely piss-poor and barely any shots on target during those three games.

I predict that after we get thrashed by Man-Yoo on Sunday, Souness will be hoofed out. I hope he gets a huge bruise on his arse!

Well it's all very well blaming the manager, again....but who will replace this one?

And the money spent on a new manager's contract could be put into players - it's not as if Newcastle are seriously expecting to win the league or FA cup, they want into Europe.

However if Liverpool do buy back Owen from RM it could be the most astute marketing move ever.

I'll certainly feel very sorry for Michael Owen if he ends up up at Newcastle.. surely Newcastle must be taking over from Swansea as the graveyard of ambition.

Do you have any ideas? This time last year, I was thinking of Gordon Strachan (now at Celtic) or Steve Bruce (Brum now playing shite).

Well, according to the guy at Koptalk, Owen's back to Liverpool and that's the most likely situation. Benitez's show distain is to keep the price down. Owen said he will only go to Newcastle on Loan. However much Newcastle offer, its still Owens decision where he plays, hes not a slave. Shepard with record bids is just trying to keep the fans happy.

Seems NUFC have goven up and decided to buy Luque instead...which begs the question why the didn't just offer the extra £1m thaqt Deportivo wanted in the first place.

Good signing I think - pacey, skillful player and will be able to support Shearer. The supply to both of them is the problem.

If Owen does go back, i'd assume Cisse will go back to France, which seems a bit harsh to me. But this is the club that bought Peter Crouch for £7m.

luque on tyneside having a medical by all accounts. sounds promising. get dyer and emre fit for sunday and we might even avoid our normal tonking by Man Utd. hopefully.

Martin O'Neil, when he reappears.
