Overrated food

Most of the things posted on this thread aren't overated - they are merely things someone doesn't like, or examples of a particular dish that was poorly made.
Very true. Most of the stuff mentioned is ok - apart from polenta.

the op is obviously eating shite mozzarella and shite risotto.

Probably true enough for the risotto but IMO it's like something that should be served to go with something else, not a dish all on its own.

Uncooked mozzarella like people have in salads is gross and rubbery. It's only good when it's melted. Halloumi is nicer.

That certainly looks better than this:

Prawns!

well any kinda shell fish really - all a bit meh imo.

And I know most of you disagree but I'm right..... so there!!
:p

Really expensive wine is all overrated. At least it is overrated from a taste point of view. Its a social construct. For example is a £20 bottle of wine twice as good as a £10 bottle of wine in terms of the pleasure it gives. I doubt it.

That applies to all goods though - law of diminishing returns innit. Are those £20 earphones better than the freebies with a cheap radio, but are the £500 versions worth 25x as much and so on.

Beef Steak.

It's rubbish. "ooh i'll have the steak"

To be fair, that's way better than the anodyne 'chicken breast' option.

I'll have the most taste-free, driest bit of the bird at the highest price - oh and can you stamp the word 'mug' on my forehead whilst you're at it.

butternut squash is everywhere. not saying it's overrated but it's everywhere.

Every TV chef or recipe in papers/magazine keeps harping on about Butternut Squash and, having given it a good go in several dishes, I reckon it's overrated and really fucking dull. Every veggie friend I've got raves about it but if I go round to their house for dinner and it gets served up again I'm going to order a takeaway. The best bit about it is its name.

I like couscous but only if it's got lots of other tastes in there (I 'cook' mine in water that's got tomato puree and garlic dissolved in it. Nom.)

Beef Steak.

European steak, yeh. East coast steak, yeh.

The further you get away where the cows are raised the more steak sucks and the less they know how to cook it. If you live in a place where they knock it over the head and slide it onto your plate then you can't beat it.

Cous-cous: Crap.

Sun-dried tomatoes: Rank.

Could not agree with you more.

Proper risotto however is lush. To get the depth of flavour it has to be started with wine, but many people forget that.
