Overated Lps

I glad you mentioned Fleetwood mac - you've jogged my memory

Dire Straits - just drop the second word and you've got it ....
Dark Side of the Moon - self indulgent twaddle of the worst kind

Almost the three first LPs I ever bought

Not sure when I'll next be in the mood to play "Rumours" - "The Chain" being used for a petrol head programme spoiled it somewhat  , slightly more likely to play at least some of the tracks on the first and excellent Dire Straits album, but "Dark Side of the Moon" is the story of my life !

Lodger is probably Bowies finest, Low is sublime, and Heroes pretty damn marvellous. MWStW is okay.
The second side of "Low" - with Eno's contribution - classic proto-dark ambient

As has been said, some albums were simply over-hyped.

I agree about "Pet Sounds" - probably only meaningful to a studio technique and band history trainspotter ...

Sergeant Pepper is however an excellent album by almost any standard.

I didn't "get" Moby .....

Have to agree there - the first album and 'Combat Rock' effortlessly pissed all over it. In my very humble opinion. :)

All the clash records piss over London Calling , except maybe Cut the Crap which is about the same quality .

Some people need to get their ears seen to - 'Combat Rock' better than 'London Calling!?!?!'

London calling has a few great songs on it with a lot of filler , at least while sandanista didn't have any really outstanding tracks ( ok maybe one or two ) at least it was consistant , and the same can be said for Combat Rock . The Clash and Give em' enough rope are just pure brilliance though !

Well all I can say is  to that.

EVery single track on sides 1&2 of London calling is fucking great - sides 3 and 4 a bit more patchy but still good.

Anyway - another contender Tricky - Maxiquake or whatever its called - self indulgent coke fueled bollocks apart from 'cold steel' which is someone elses song anyway.

Spiritualized's career - couldn't get my head round them at all, I mean they were ok and even good on occaision, but they got so hyped it was untrue. To be honest I've not really tried to like them, but always thought '*shrug* what's the fuss?'

"Nevermind" is the ultimate in overrating. "London Calling" wasn't the best Clash album and they weren't as good as the Pistols, the Ramones, the Dead Kennedys or the Buzzcocks. "....Nation Of Millions" seems vastly overrated and sounds very average next to it's rap group album peers of "Straight Outta Compton" and "Enter The Wu....".

Does anybody else find 'Never Mind the Bollocks' dull and monotonous ?

Certainly didn't seem worth the wait when it came out. Had the Spunk bootleg already and prefered it to Bollocks.
The Pistols were a great singles band though.

well I wish you'd change your username then - everytime I see one of your posts I get horrible flash backs :D :D

no

I heard the first REM album that I never bought - the one with Shiney Happy People on it for the first time the other day... sorry. It' just sortof annoying really.

I've occasionally thought various Jimmy Hendrix offerings were a bit dodgy as well - endless noodling self indulgent guitar solos going on and on until the end of time. That said, there's never ever been anyone like him before or since.

Elvis. Say no more.

REM always were shite. The only stuff they did remotely 'good' was 'Man on the Moon '..

I never understood what the fuss was a out.. Michael Stipe- nice bloke though.

Right!

:)

'The Stone Roses'. It's a decent album with three or four great songs on it, but there's also filler on there. And no one's ever going to tell me it's better than The Wedding Present's 'George Best'.

Four stars, not five. :)
