I contend that electric ovens are shit. As in, totally and utterly shit.

They're expensive to run, take ages to heat up and turn pizza into biscuits.

Compared to gas they're 100% shit.

our gas oven is shite... everything takes ages to cook, it's even difficult to switch on and you end up with streaming eyes full of gas

my parent's electric oven is loverrly...

*but* my parent's oven is new, and out current gas oven is donkey's years old... so not really a fair comparison :)

Electric. They don't fill the kitchen with fumes, can use renewable energy, cook evenly and don't scorch things to a cinder, don't explode in your face, and you have a finer control of the temperature.

If that happens, you need to clean yer oven, mate. ;)

Gas for me! Gas hobs n all! No way do you have a finer control over temps...certainly not with electric hobs!

Renewable energy?

Do you have any idea how much solar/wind you need to run an electric oven?

I do. And it's a fuck load.

If you're going to use that as a reason then at least vote for the wood option.

We don't have any mains gas where we live. On those grounds, electric is 100% win.

Electric oven please... heat spreads more evenly which is important for cakes.

Gas hob though.

I'm still trying to work out if this new oven is an electric or convection oven, and what the fuck one of those even is.

My leccy oven doesn't need preheating at all.

Also, could you explain how to change a gas oven from 170C to 180C?

Turn it up or down?

I'm sure you could memorise the gas mark -> centigrade conversion charts if you wanted to be anal about it.

Also you can get those tabletop ovens, or microwave/oven combinations. You can't do that with gas.
