outdated graffiti in london

In Glasgows Kings St. Car park there is still an anti-poll tax march gaffiti

There is also some anti Poll tax grafitti on a wall on Pentonville Road in the crossing of Pentonville Road and Penton St. I think it just says No Poll Tax!

Incidentally, does anyone know the significance of that "FUME DDS" graffiti on the Westminster roundabout building:

Puzzlingly enough, Editor's own picture only shows "FUME" written. It seems that someone added DDS at a later date:

I was up there the other day & there's loads more on it now. Some proper stuff too, not just the shitty upside down stuff like that particular 'FUME' (which is someone's tag, by the way). DDS will be the crew that the tagger/artist, call it what you will, belongs to.

There used to be a great bit of graffiti in Blackrock, Dublin which said "Free Brendan Hughes"*

and someone else had written underneath...

"with every box of Cornflakes".. :D

*it wasn't this name.. i can't remember who it was exactly - some alleged IRA volunteer.
ETA: Sorry, I know that's not London.. :o

The volunteer was Nicky Kelly, continuing the derailment theres a big 'NO EEC' in Goatstown in Dublin which has to be from before 1972

Might be from even earlier ("Vote Labour if you want a 'coloured' family next door" was the infamous line from the Smethwick by-election in - I think - 1964).

correct
except they didn't use the phrase 'coloured'

"Move Heaven and Earth to defend the life of Chairman Gonzalo!"

Something to do with Sendero Luminosa/Shining Path. Used to be all over round ULU, could probably find a few now. Last time I checked, Earth was still there. Will let you know about Heaven...

it says 'don't pay poll tax', and some fuckwit vandal painted over it last year.

Fulham Broadway had "Vote Robson in 66"

The famous "far away is close to hand in images of elsewhere" (Paddington approaches circa 1978

Plus

"Pay no Poll Tax" - (Watford Junction)

And elsewhere "Fuck off Taffs" (with arrrow pointing towards Wales) - Gloucester) - Over Junction to be precise.

Lots of 1700 era graff scratched in St Albans Abbey ...

Whats new ? ....

thought i knew all the local l'boro bands in the 80's - it was a pretty small scene - but DFj escapes me. d'you know what they called themselves eventually? can't recall the graffitti either. which bridge was it?

for my sins one night in the early 90's i sprayed 'unemployment and inflation are not caused by immigration. bullshit, come off it, the enemy is profit!' on a foot- bridge in silvertown by the sugar works. if anyone's passing let me know if it's still there. took fucking ages.

The bridge down the bottom of Empress Road, towards the Nottingham Road end. Over the canal I think, not the railway. No, it was over the steam railway.
There were some pretty good bands around late 80s/early 90s (heliotrope e.g.), some good nights in the old labour club and above the Swan IIRC. The DFJ were to the best of my knowledge never formed - it was a good name one night in the 3 nuns. I forget all the names now, but I did know some of the fellas quite well from my daytime drinky ssessions in the Nuns, Greyhound and the one opposite the Greyhound with the same landlord (WTF was it called? I spent half my life in there FFS!)- I'd guess the graffiti went up about 86 or 87

You a Lobo native or a student then?

Re Fume

FUME is tag that I used to see scrawled all over the Hammersmith and city line area and london generally, a good few years agonow, I guess he is into something else now! And London transport are very happy..

I think that 'The Wall' is still visible under one of the bridges over the River Lea near Springfield Park. Dates from the late 70's punk band when they sprayed their name all over London (mainly on walls rather than bridges).

I went to the squat party in that building when Fume did that tag.

The two pictures are of different sides of the building anyway I think. So different tags.

Dask- Me mate went to that too. Before my time, sadly.

There's KBW (Keep Britain White) just visible on a wall on St Pauls Road in Islington - or at least there was a few years ago.

There's a wonderfull piece on Earlsfied Rail Bridge over Garrett Lane relating to the law on dangerous dogs (Kenneth Baker[a Tory] was Home Sec - for younger viwers).

Pit Boulls are Innerscnot!

Yeah, I went to a party there to...was great seeing houses of Parliament from one of the floors at 8 on a Sunday morning, listening to some bangin' Tekno :D

Saw 'Up the IRA' on a half disused warehouse down Regents canal the other day...don't know how outdated that is though..... (Bizarrely enough, there was an Easyjet boarding card from Belfast lying only a couple of paces further  )

"police killed blair peach" on A120 near Hackney Wick/Old Ford

"NF" in 3 foot high letters on railway bridge on Coborn Rd, E3

And there's some mental graffiti ( or was till last year) on the bit between Bow Road and Tredegar Road E3 (Tom Thumbs Passage as it's called) which went along the lines of "Peter is back home, thanks to the youth" and a bit further down "Brave , Beautiful = Icon" all in the same weird big old brushstrokes). I haven't a clue what it means but it looked like it's been there ages.
