Out of date breaded cod - will I die?

Minnie_the_Minx

someinenhhanding menbag and me ah bollox
or rather, will my b/f die?

I have M&S breaded cod with oven chips but I got my dates mixed up and it went out of date yesterday.

Now I know fish is dodgy but... can't risk b/f's health as it's not good or will it still be safe?

it'll be fine

smell it to be sure, but 1 day isn't really worth the thread tbh :p

Too late. Fish is in the bin, he's having chips and eggs and tomatoes and ham.

Could have done chicken but he's already had that today :D

oh ffs!

how did people live all those years without use by dates?

could it be that there're other ways to tell if something is off?

I've not got much of a sense of smell :o :D

Fish is one of those foods that can often be off well before its use by date & when it turns, it can turn very quickly.

It can also harbour some truly nasty things. Indeed, fish parasites have more horrible personality than almost any other form.

Had too many bad experiences personally, so I'll now only eat fish that I've caught, cleaned & carefully checked myself.

There is a specific freshness test/scale for fish, it is simple but it escapes me just now. The Quim Scale? (really!)

If it is in the freezer it will be OK, in the fridge bin it.

Minnie you should have be braver! E2a Yay! We saved the fish!

Of course if Mr Minx gets violently ill and is chucking up his guts in 2 hours, I'll deny all knowledge.

*awaits outcome*

We ate M & S squidgy chocolate puds on Sunday night that had a date of the 17th Nov on them. I like to live dangerously with my food :D

I'll happily eat all sorts of stuff that's out of date. food belongs in my tummy, not in the bin
