Innit. Me too. I love the way story gets his point across...whatever it may be.

Hug the cat for me! :)

Well the old warrior is dead.

He liked to lie with his head in a patch of sunshine. He would walk with us to the post box of an evening. In his prime, he was so strong that I could rest my head on him. He was never a lap cat, but he liked to hang out where people were talking and laughing. He was a good pal.

In the last week, he got weaker and weaker, but the stubborn old bugger just wouldn't give in. This afternoon we decided that we had to take him to be put down.

There was nothing left of him but his will power. He was all skin and bone, but he still looked at us and looked for us and when we came into the room. His purr became a mere whisper, but he still revved up when we were petting him.

Despite his weakened state, it took two injections directly to the kidney (ouch :( ) to do the deed. Even the vet was impressed by his strength of will.

We walked home across the park and said "Remember when, remember when..."

Run free warrior cat :(

Over the last few months I've definitely come to appreciate the value of a life well lived and a death well managed, iyswim. Your old boy had both.

All the best xx

very impressive--and a good cat never dies, merely retreats into the ether. I still feel the spirit of my departed 'M' 7 years later--as your posts convey 'a true friend'.

Big strokes to your old fella into the feline summerland, story; he sounded like a cat King Lear and I'm sorry for your loss. you loved each other well and no doubt you'll meet again. go gently on yourself. ((story))

Cats are the dogs. Eeerrr.... you know what I mean.

Some pets are more like mates.

My ginger tom will live on for a long time - he has a couple of gestures which, jokingly, me and Ms Cat have purloined to use on each other. Now our baby, Chainsaw Kitten, uses them too! So Ginger Tom will live on!

Hope your cat sticks around in your memory as well, they make us better people.

I'm sorry story but you did the right thing. it must have hurt you like shit but it was the best thing to do.

Very sad but it's all part of owning a pet, joy and sadness.

Maybe a bit to early to be thinking in these terms now, but there's a space now at the bottom of the bed that a little kitten would love to curl up on.:)

Heh - yes.... the other cats might have something to say about that though...

They're all mooching about wondering what's happened to their King.

I predict some jockeying for position now that the Old Fella isn't around to keep them in their places.

Thanks for all your kindnesses SubUrban :( :( :) :)

Sorry to hear that. :(

It sounds like a cliche now but try to take comfort that your cat led a very full and happy life- as much as any cat could wish for by the sounds of it :)

Really sorry Story, so sad :(

It's a horrid thing to do but a kindness when they are so poorly but won't let go of us,

(((( Story and all cat lovers, and all cats ))))

I'm sorry story. I know I'm determied to give mine to a taxidermist once he's gone cos I just need to keep him besides me.

Thanks for all the brackets and stuff.

We miss him.

When I go into the kitchen first thing in the morning, it feels lonesome without him.

He wasn't here to have his share of curry the other night. Even thaal didn't phase him :D

We'd toss popcorn for him and he'd smack 'em out of the air like a goalie. We had popcorn tonight with a DVD, and it felt odd to be eating it without sharing it with him.

He was looking into my eyes when the vet injected him, and I saw him fade away

I'm trying to recall his vividness, not the gaunt and weary chap he was at the end.

I know it was for the best an' all that. No regrets - it really was time to do it.

Dying looks like hard work.
