Not seen Milk yet but am a real big fan of Sean Penn.

I cant say ive ever seen much of his work, but he plays the role so well, i hardly noticed who he was.

I can identify with this.
Sean Penn just kind of crept up on me without really noticing.
The sign of a good actor/artist or a cliche, I don't know really.

A good example (for me) is Carlito's Way which seems to be less noticed than many of the gangter genre but a real classic.

Penn was brillant in Carlito's Way,one of his best ever performances imo.
